The posting

The Brand and User Experience Manager owns the visual identity, brand system, and digital user experience across the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), UpSurge Baltimore, and Invest in Baltimore Region (BOLD MOVES) digital properties. They also lead the design, social, and multimedia production process that turns our events, initiatives, and marketing campaigns into polished, multi-platform content. GBC and UpSurge, in particular, maintain distinct brand identities — each with equity worth preserving — and this role builds and governs the shared visual systems (templates, standards, and assets) that keeps both brands consistent and professional wherever they appear, without merging the two.

While this position is primarily visual and design-driven; with editorial and written direction — articles, newsletters, and brand voice — sitting primarily with other communications team staff, the role still requires basic content management skills and at least some editorial savvy. Comfort and familiarity with public policy and economic development concepts is preferred. A successful candidate brings structure and craft to processes that currently exist informally, and is comfortable working across two distinct audiences with a service-minded, execution-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Identity & Visual Standards

  • Owns and maintains a shared GBC + UpSurge brand system — including colors, fonts, logo lockup and placement rules, letterhead, and email signature standards — that keeps the two distinct identities consistent and professional across every touchpoint.
  • Leads development of a visual style guide that works alongside the organizations' editorial and AP style standards (maintained by the communications team).
  • Leads the development and implementation of standardized presentation-deck templates, a top-priority brand deliverable, and helps coordinate their rollout and consistent use across the organization.
  • Establishes a central home, either within or clearly interfacing with GBC’s central SharePoint system, for approved brand and logo assets while providing clear guidance on how to use both organizational and sponsor logos.
  • Works with outside vendors and across the organization to manage our extensive library of photo and video content with an eye towards systematizing the usage of such digital assets for all colleagues.
  • Presents and codifies brand standards to GBC and UpSurge’s leadership for approval, while planning and leading the rollout of the brand kit through live team training rather than a written SOP alone.

User Experience & Website Content

  • Partner with website and registration owners to improve the user and navigation experience across the GBC, UpSurge, Invest in Baltimore Region and any other relevant digital properties to ensure that the digital front door of our organization is as up to date as possible.
  • Design clear UX and on-page copy for event access tiering — with categories including public, partner-only, and unlisted events — including how visitors can become a partner.
  • Maintain and update content across the organizational websites, applying brand and UX standards consistently. This could include working with a design contractor, which makes web development experience a plus, not a requirement.
  • Provide UX input on the Blackthorn-based event registration processes to improve visual polish, particularly where it links from GBC or UpSurge sites.

Event & Social Content Production

  • Plan, film, and edit event and social video content for GBC and UpSurge channels, from flagship milestone events to recurring social content.
  • Serve as primary designer for event graphics org-wide (flyers, story-format graphics, sponsor thank-you graphics for milestone events), with GBC teammates providing backup and support.
  • Transform raw footage, transcripts, and completed briefing documents into recap content, quote graphics, and short-form video for flagship events.
  • Own recap and teaser videos, individual speaker clips, YouTube uploads (titles, descriptions, playlists), thumbnail design, and Linktree maintenance.

Digital Marketing & Campaigns

  • Manage social promotion for GBC and UpSurge events, tailoring visual content to each audience (GBC: institutional; UpSurge: digitally native and responsive to live content).
  • Own content and social presence for different platforms, sites, or brands with attached accounts
  • Support the production and distribution of pre-event eblasts and newsletters (e.g., via Mailchimp), sharing execution with other contributors.
  • Review social and campaign analytics to produce recurring reports and recommend strategy adjustments, including establishing a consistent post-event marketing and attendance reporting process.
  • Develop visual sub-brand identities for sub-products across the GBC/UpSurge ecosystem, ranging from data reports to new initiatives.

Platforms, Workflow & Cross-Team Infrastructure

  • Use Canva paired with AI tools (including Claude) as the standard design and copywriting workflow.
  • Create promotional toolkits and marketing timelines that standardize campaign rollout for events and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage event and content setup within Blackthorn — and, to a lesser extent, Salesforce — as an extension of website content management (managing content within these platforms rather than serving as their system administrator).
  • Support an organized project-management workflow within Monday.com, the organization’s standard project management tool, including a digital briefing-document intake, so content work proceeds from a completed brief.
  • Proactively flag capacity or timeline conflicts to management when scoping project commitments.

Requirements

Required

  • Proficiency in Canva (or comparable design platforms).
  • Management of platform-specific social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube).
  • Video production and editing (Final Cut Pro or equivalent).
  • Experience with AI-enabled tools for design, content generation, and drafting.
  • Experience developing and governing brand identity systems — visual identity, style guides, templates — across multiple sub-brands or entities.
  • Working knowledge of UX principles for content-heavy, event-driven websites, including navigation, discoverability, and access-tiering patterns.
  • Strong, fast-turnaround visual production across multiple platforms and organizational voices.
  • Ability to interpret and report on social and campaign analytics, as well as translate insights into actionable strategy.
  • Comfortable operating across two organizations with distinct audiences and bringing structure to processes that are still evolving.

Preferred (a plus, not required)

  • Experience maintaining organizational websites, and web development / CMS familiarity (e.g., WordPress)
  • Newsletter and email marketing platform experience (Mailchimp or comparable).
  • Familiarity with event registration and CRM platforms (Blackthorn, Salesforce) for content setup.
  • Experience with cross-team project management tools (Monday.com or comparable).
  • Knowledge of economic development organizations, Baltimore’s economy, and/or regional economic drivers.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000/year commensurate with qualifications and experience, with potential for an annual bonus based on performance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
