We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to build and manage high-value institutional and enterprise relationships. The role involves identifying organisations that can benefit from solutions supporting their SME members, customers, or wider business communities, and taking these relationships from initial engagement through commercial agreement and long-term partnership.

The role requires strong consultative selling, relationship-building capabilities, commercial acumen, and a solid understanding of international business and trade ecosystems.

Target organisations may include:

  • Embassies, diplomatic trade missions, and international trade and investment agencies
  • Chambers of commerce, industry and trade associations, and business councils
  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Export promotion, SME development, government, and economic development organisations
  • Enterprise groups and business networks

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Management: Build and manage an enterprise and institutional business development pipeline while maintaining accurate forecasting and CRM records.
  • Strategic Prospecting: Identify organisations that could become strategic partners or customers and establish relationships with senior decision-makers.
  • Discovery: Understand organisational objectives related to international trade, SME development, market access, and business growth.
  • Proposition Development: Create tailored commercial propositions, enterprise proposals, partnership structures, and commercial models aligned with client requirements.
  • Senior-Level Engagement: Lead discovery meetings, presentations, product demonstrations, proposals, and commercial negotiations with senior executives and institutional stakeholders.
  • Partnership Programmes: Identify opportunities for white-labelled programmes, sponsored SME access, trade initiatives, international delegations, and market-entry programmes.
  • Business Expansion: Develop partnerships capable of bringing hundreds or thousands of businesses into relevant programmes or platforms.
  • Relationship Management: Build long-term institutional partnerships rather than focusing solely on transactional sales.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the organisation at trade conferences, chamber events, government meetings, business forums, and international delegations.
  • International Coordination: Coordinate business development opportunities across India, the UK, and other international markets.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with founders, marketing, product, and other internal teams to develop strategic accounts and relevant propositions.

Typical Commercial Opportunities

  • Banks & Financial Institutions: Offering international growth and trade-related capabilities to SME banking customers.
  • Embassies & Trade Missions: Developing digital ecosystems that connect businesses across different markets.
  • Government & Economic Development Organisations: Supporting programmes that help SMEs export, internationalise, or establish overseas partnerships.
  • Trade Associations: Connecting members with international buyers, suppliers, distributors, and strategic partners.
  • Enterprise Partners: Integrating relevant capabilities into broader business growth and international trade programmes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise sales, institutional business development, strategic partnerships, or international business.
  • Demonstrated experience developing senior-level B2B relationships and managing complex, longer sales cycles.
  • Ability to engage confidently with CEOs, senior executives, diplomats, government officials, and institutional leaders.
  • Excellent spoken and written English with strong presentation, negotiation, and commercial communication skills.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to proactively create new business opportunities.
  • Comfortable working across different countries, organisations, cultures, and business environments.

  • Trade promotion and international business development
  • Chambers, business associations, and government trade organisations
  • Banking and trade finance ecosystems
  • International partnerships involving buyers, suppliers, distributors, and business networks

Deep technical knowledge of customs regulations is not essential. However, the candidate should understand how businesses expand internationally and how governments, banks, chambers, and trade organisations support internationalisation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Business Administration, International Business, International Trade, Marketing, Economics, Commerce, or Management is preferred.
  • An MBA or postgraduate qualification in International Business is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Relevant industry experience and an established network across trade, banking, chambers, government, or enterprise ecosystems will be highly valued.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
