Something exciting is happening at The Chimney Lift. We are introducing a dedicated character programme designed to create playful, memorable interactions for visitors. As a Character Performer, you will bring the attraction's character to life through energetic physical performance, guest interaction and high presentation standards.

You will work alongside the Character Lead, who will support you throughout the day and act as your dedicated Character Escort. Your primary responsibility is to bring Charlie the Chimney to life inside the costume through engaging, expressive and consistent performances. Together, you will create memorable guest interactions while the Character Lead manages guest flow, photo opportunities, performer welfare and operational support, ensuring every appearance is delivered safely, consistently and in line with the character standards.

We're looking for people who are

  • Energetic, expressive and confident engaging with children, families and visitors from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Comfortable using movement, gesture and physical storytelling to communicate without relying on speech while in costume.
  • Reliable team players who listen to direction and communicate openly about welfare, safety and operational concerns.
  • This role requires the ability to stand and remain mobile for prolonged periods as part of the day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Professional, positive and able to maintain performance quality during busy periods.

A Day in the Life of a Character Performer

Start of Your Shift

  • Meet with the Character Lead to review the day's schedule, including appearance times, events, breaks and any operational updates.
  • Ensure you are physically ready and comfortable before your first appearance.

Throughout the Day

  • Bring Charlie the Chimney to life through expressive movement, body language and consistent, family-friendly interactions.
  • Work closely with the Character Lead, who will guide you through guest interactions, manage photo opportunities and support you throughout each appearance.
  • Remain aware of your surroundings and follow the Character Lead's direction to ensure performances are delivered safely and smoothly.
  • Stay in character at all times while in costume, maintaining Charlie's personality and performance style.
  • Communicate any concerns, fatigue, visibility issues or discomfort to the Character Lead as soon as possible so appropriate support can be provided.

End of Your Shift

  • Assist the Character Lead with removing and checking the costume, reporting any damage, maintenance issues or concerns.
  • Ensure all costume items and accessories are returned correctly and ready for cleaning and storage.
  • Take part in the end-of-day debrief, sharing feedback, guest interactions and any ideas to improve future performances.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in performance, theatre, dance, physical theatre, live entertainment, mascot performance, visitor attractions, events or guest engagement is preferred.
  • Strong physical communication, improvisation and audience-engagement skills.
  • Confident working in busy public environments and interacting with children and families.
  • Physically able to wear and perform in a full character costume, subject to appropriate costume fit and reasonable adjustments.
  • Able to follow performance direction, operating procedures and health and safety requirements consistently.
  • Reliable and flexible, with strong availability on Fridays, weekends, school holidays and peak periods.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.

Benefits

  • Flexitime options
  • Staff discounts across Battersea Power Station
  • Free or discounted food during shifts
  • Company events and social activities
  • Performance coaching and the opportunity to develop within a new character programme

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
