Position Summary
The Clinical Psychologist provides psychological services to clients across Release Recovery’s Westchester programs. This role provides individual clinical services, psychological assessment and testing, diagnostic evaluation, and consultation based on client needs.
The Clinical Psychologist works closely with the medical and clinical teams to support treatment planning, evaluate more complex or higher-risk presentations when needed, and provide specialized psychological expertise across the program.
Essential Functions
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
- Evaluate clients with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring conditions and diagnose clinical conditions when appropriate.
- Meet individually with clients to provide therapy and other clinical interventions based on their needs.
- Conduct risk assessments for clients presenting with significant psychiatric, behavioral, suicide, self-harm, or other safety concerns.
- Develop clear clinical recommendations and communicate findings to the treatment team.
- Meet with families or other supports when clinically appropriate.
Psychological Testing & Diagnostic Services
- Conduct psychological and diagnostic assessments when additional evaluation is needed.
- Administer and interpret psychological testing as appropriate.
- Use testing, clinical interviews, history, and other available information to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Prepare written assessment reports and recommendations when formal testing or evaluation is completed.
Treatment Team & Clinical Consultation
- Participate in treatment team meetings and provide consultation on client needs, diagnosis, risk, and treatment planning.
- Collaborate closely with medical, clinical, and leadership teams to support client care.
- Provide consultation to clinicians when questions arise regarding diagnosis, assessment, risk, or treatment approach.
- Coordinate with outside providers and other professionals when needed to support continuity of care.
Clinical Quality & Support
- Provide education and training to clinical staff on psychological assessment, diagnosis, complex presentations, and other areas of expertise.
- Support the development and improvement of clinical assessment practices and protocols as needed.
- Review and support policies and procedures related to suicide risk, self-harm, and other high-risk clinical concerns.
- Complete clinical documentation, assessments, reports, and other required records accurately and within required timelines.
- Maintain current knowledge of psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and co-occurring conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on organizational need.

- Assessment & Diagnosis: Completes thorough evaluations, reaches well-supported diagnoses, and documents findings clearly.
- Psychological Testing: Selects, administers, and interprets appropriate psychological assessments and communicates results in a way that supports treatment planning.
- Risk Assessment: Recognizes and evaluates suicide, self-harm, psychiatric, and behavioral risk and follows appropriate escalation and safety procedures.
- Clinical Documentation: Completes notes, assessments, reports, and recommendations accurately and within required timelines.
- Collaboration: Participates consistently in treatment team meetings and provides clear, useful consultation to medical and clinical staff.
- Communication: Explains clinical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, families, and treatment team members.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an accredited program.
- Active license as a psychologist in New York State.
- Experience assessing, diagnosing, and treating adults with mental health conditions.
- Experience administering and interpreting psychological assessments and testing.
- Experience evaluating and supporting clients with higher-acuity or complex clinical presentations.
- Experience working with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions preferred.

- Ability to respond appropriately to urgent or high-risk clinical situations.
