About KanaRey

KanaRey is a boutique marketing and creative agency focused on building communities, growing fandoms, and creating meaningful connections between brands and their audiences.

We work across marketing, creative, community, PR, influencer, and content initiatives, partnering closely with our clients to develop campaigns and programs that resonate with passionate audiences.

We are looking for a Communications Manager who can serve as a key communications lead across our client projects.

Position Overview

The Communications Manager will lead media relations while also managing communications and relationships with a broader network of external partners, including journalists, media outlets, influencers, content creators, community leaders, and other industry partners.

This is not a traditional PR-only position.

The ideal candidate is someone who understands how earned media, creators, influencers, and communities work together within a modern marketing ecosystem. In addition to securing and maintaining strong media relationships, this person will support client campaigns and community-focused projects by identifying the right partners, building relationships, coordinating communications, and helping move projects from strategy through execution.

The role requires a combination of strong PR fundamentals, relationship-building skills, project coordination, and an understanding of contemporary entertainment and fandom culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead media relations efforts across KanaRey client projects, including media outreach, pitching, relationship management, and follow-up.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, media outlets, influencers, content creators, community leaders, and other relevant industry partners.
  • Serve as a primary communication point between KanaRey, clients, media, creators, influencers, and external partners.
  • Identify and recommend media, creators, influencers, and other partners who align with each client's audience, brand, and campaign objectives.
  • Support the development and execution of PR, marketing, influencer, creator, and community-focused campaigns.
  • Coordinate outreach, briefings, interviews, events, content opportunities, product access, review opportunities, and other partner-facing initiatives.
  • Develop clear messaging, pitches, briefing materials, talking points, media communications, and partner communications.
  • Work closely with KanaRey's marketing, creative, social, and community teams to ensure communications are consistent with the overall campaign strategy.
  • Manage multiple client projects and external relationships simultaneously while maintaining clear communication, timelines, and follow-through.
  • Monitor media coverage, creator activity, industry conversations, and relevant trends, and provide insights and recommendations to clients and internal teams.
  • Contribute to campaign reporting, including media coverage, partner activity, key results, and qualitative feedback from media and community channels.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in public relations, communications, media relations, influencer relations, creator partnerships, or a related field.
  • Strong existing understanding of media relations and experience communicating directly with journalists and media outlets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of partners, from journalists and creators to client executives and community representatives.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, stakeholders, and deadlines in a fast-paced agency, entertainment, or marketing environment.
  • Strong judgment and ability to understand how different audiences, communities, media, and creators should be approached.
  • Comfortable working in a client-facing role and representing both Kanarey and its clients professionally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across PR, marketing, creative, social media, and community teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, responsiveness, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the video game, entertainment, anime, technology, or broader fandom-driven industries.
  • Existing relationships with gaming, entertainment, lifestyle, technology, or pop-culture media.
  • Experience working directly with influencers, streamers, content creators, or online communities.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Discord, YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, and other community-driven platforms.
  • Agency experience managing multiple client accounts.
  • Genuine interest in games, entertainment, fandom culture, and online communities.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is naturally good at building relationships.

You should be equally comfortable pitching a journalist, coordinating with a content creator, communicating with a client, or working alongside a community team.

The right person understands that modern PR is no longer limited to traditional media coverage. Strong brands are built through a combination of media, creators, communities, culture, and genuine relationships with the people who influence an audience.

At KanaRey, this role will help connect those worlds.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
