The posting

Position Type: Full-Time Department: Construction / Operations Reports To: Construction Management Work Environment: Outdoor / Field-Based Travel: Local and regional travel as required

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Construction CDL Driver to support our field construction operations. This position is more than a traditional driving role. The driver will be responsible for transporting construction equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials between yards and active job sites, while also assisting with loading, unloading, equipment handling, inspections, and basic troubleshooting.

This is a hands-on, outdoor construction position. Employees must be prepared to work outside and be exposed to natural weather conditions and changing environments throughout the workday.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an active construction environment, understands how to safely secure and transport heavy equipment, takes ownership of assigned vehicles and trailers, and maintains full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, state, and local requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment & Material Transportation

  • Safely transport construction equipment, machinery, tools, materials, and supplies between yards, projects, vendors, and other locations.
  • Operate CDL-required trucks and trailers used to transport heavy construction equipment.
  • Load, unload, and properly position equipment on trucks and trailers.
  • Safely operate construction equipment as necessary for loading, cleaning, emptying, unloading, staging, and moving equipment.
  • Properly secure equipment and materials using chains, binders, straps, and other approved securement methods.
  • Verify equipment weight, trailer capacity, load distribution, and securement before transport.
  • Coordinate equipment moves with field HDD construction management.
  • Assist with material deliveries, pickups, equipment transfers, and job-site logistics.

Vehicle & Equipment Inspections

  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers.
  • Inspect tires, brakes, lights, fluids, hitches, safety equipment, tie-downs, and other critical component, etc.
  • Identify and immediately report safety concerns, mechanical issues, damage, or maintenance needs through the app.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and job-ready trucks, trailers, and assigned equipment.
  • Ensure required safety equipment, registration, insurance documentation, permits, and inspection records are present and current.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues with trucks and trailers
  • Perform basic repairs and adjustments when within the driver’s training and capabilities.
  • Recognize when equipment is unsafe to transport and remove or report it from service appropriately.
  • Coordinate with Fleet or management when professional repairs or maintenance are required.

DOT & Safety Compliance

  • Maintain a valid CDL and all endorsements required for assigned vehicles and loads.
  • Comply with all applicable FMCSA, DOT, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Follow Hours-of-Service and electronic logging requirements when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate inspection, mileage, delivery, equipment-transfer, and other required records.
  • Follow all vehicle weight, load securement, permitting, and transportation requirements.
  • Participate in required drug and alcohol testing programs and maintain CDL qualification requirements.
  • Immediately report accidents, citations, roadside inspections, equipment damage, or compliance concerns.
  • Follow all company safety policies and job-site requirements.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an outdoor, field-based construction position, not an office or driving-only position. The employee should expect to work in and around active construction sites and equipment yards.

  • Regular exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, sun, dust, mud, and other natural outdoor elements.
  • Work may continue during changing or uncomfortable weather conditions when it is safe and operationally appropriate to do so.
  • Must be comfortable working around construction equipment, moving vehicles, machinery, noise, dirt, and uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to repeatedly enter and exit commercial vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Must be physically capable of assisting with equipment securement, chains, binders, straps, materials, and other job-related tasks.
  • Must be willing to perform hands-on work outside of the truck when required.
  • Must follow required PPE and job-site safety requirements at all times.

Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in good standing.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet company and insurance requirements.
  • Experience transporting construction or heavy equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating trucks and trailers in construction environments.
  • Knowledge of proper equipment loading, unloading, tie-down, and load-securement procedures.
  • Ability to operate construction equipment used for loading and unloading.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot minor vehicle or equipment issues.
  • Understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, vehicle inspections, and safe commercial vehicle operation.
  • Ability to work outdoors and around active construction operations.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and take ownership of assigned equipment.
  • Must be dependable and willing to work early mornings, extended hours, or occasional weekends based on operational needs.

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • Utility or underground construction
  • Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations
  • Vacuum excavators
  • Flatbed and equipment trailers
  • Heavy equipment hauling and securement
  • Construction material transportation
  • Fleet inspections and preventive maintenance
  • DOT roadside inspections and compliance documentation

What We’re Looking For

This position requires someone who understands that their responsibility does not end when the truck reaches its destination. We are looking for a driver who will take ownership of the truck, trailer, equipment, and load from pickup through delivery.

The right candidate will prioritize safety, inspect equipment before moving it, properly secure every load, communicate problems before they become larger issues, and help keep construction crews supplied and operational.

This is a hands-on construction position requiring outdoor work in natural elements. Safety, reliability, equipment care, DOT compliance, flexibility, and accountability are essential to this role.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
