The posting

Make a meaningful difference in a unique clinical environment while enjoying a tropical lifestyle.

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Anaesthetist (FANZCA) to join a well-established tertiary teaching hospital in Darwin, Northern Territory. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic, supportive department delivering specialist anaesthesia and perioperative care to patients across the Top End of Australia.

About the Hospital

You will be working at a major tertiary referral and teaching hospital serving Darwin and a vast regional and remote catchment across the Northern Territory, parts of Western Australia and neighbouring regions. As a key centre for complex clinical care, trauma management and critical care, the hospital provides a diverse and challenging clinical environment, supported by multidisciplinary teams and strong links with regional and remote health services.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine offers a broad scope of practice, with exposure to complex surgical cases, trauma, neurosurgery, paediatric anaesthesia, obstetrics and acute pain management.

The Opportunity

Working within an experienced and collaborative team, you will provide high-quality specialist anaesthetic services across the hospital and associated regional facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering specialist anaesthesia, acute pain and perioperative medicine services.
  • Providing anaesthetic services across a broad range of surgical specialties and complex clinical presentations.
  • Participating in emergency and after-hours on-call rosters.
  • Contributing to clinical education, supervision and professional development of junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participating in clinical governance, research, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting service development and contributing to the delivery of safe, evidence-based patient care.

What’s on Offer?

  • A varied and clinically rewarding consultant role with exposure to complex and diverse cases.
  • A collaborative and supportive anaesthesia department.
  • Opportunities to contribute to teaching, research, clinical leadership and service development.
  • Competitive remuneration, with applicable specialist and additional allowances.
  • Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Relocation assistance and other employment benefits, subject to the appointment package.

About You

To be considered, you will have:

  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or an accepted equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Specialist registration with AHPRA, or eligibility to obtain specialist registration.
  • Broad clinical experience in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence and continuous improvement.

Why Live in Darwin?

Darwin offers a relaxed tropical lifestyle, with warm weather, beautiful sunsets, waterfront dining and easy access to spectacular natural attractions. From exploring Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks to swimming, fishing and enjoying the city's outdoor lifestyle, there is plenty to discover beyond work. With a diverse multicultural community, a vibrant food scene and a more laid-back pace of life, Darwin is an appealing option for doctors seeking a change from Australia's larger metropolitan centres.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
