The posting

At Ocean Infinity, we're on a bold mission to subsea data using innovative technology.

Using cutting-edge robotics, autonomous technology and world-class software, we're transforming how complex operations are carried out at sea. Our uncrewed systems are making ocean exploration and operations safer, smarter and more sustainable, helping unlock the vast potential of our oceans while reducing environmental impact. 🌍

This isn't a vision for the future. It's happening right now.

As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation and redefine what's possible in the maritime industry, we're looking for exceptional talent to join our fast-growing team.Ocean Infinity is looking for a Data Engineer – Backend to help turn data our fleet captures into operational information and products our customers rely on. Day-to-day, that means working with data from shipboard and underwater cameras as well as imagery data produced in lab settings. This is a hands-on role offering autonomy and exposure to unique datasets and challenges. Working with AI Engineers, Product Managers and the wider engineering team, you’ll build the data services, integrations and backend components we use to test new algorithms and ML models, then deploy them in production applications people use every day.

Requirements

What you will do! 🚀

  • Work closely with product teams, AI engineers, subject-matter experts, and data platform engineers to understand goals and design appropriate solutions.
  • Build pipelines and integrations that move data between our lakehouse, AI systems, and the products we ship.
  • Build the datasets for AI engineers to train, test, and run models on.
  • Build APIs and backend services so other teams can access datasets and model outputs.
  • Help AI engineers quickly build and test small model services and prototypes.
  • Watch over data quality, identify problems early, fix them, and improve performance where you can.
  • Write clear documentation so other teams can understand and use what you've built.

What we look for!🔍

  • A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, plus 3+ years as a Data Engineer, Backend Engineer, or similar.
  • Strong in Python, comfortable with SQL, and a solid grasp of data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience building pipelines, APIs, or backend services connected to data platforms.
  • Comfortable working with data lakes and both structured and unstructured data.
  • Hands-on experience with orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, or Flyte.
  • Familiar with databases such as Postgres, MongoDB, or Redis.
  • A clear communicator who works well across different teams.

Nice to have! ✨

  • Prior experience with ocean data or robotics/IoT/edge device data
  • Experience with Delta Lake or similar platforms, and with streaming data.
  • Experience with CI/CD and containerized services (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Some experience with ML model serving and observation

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
