The posting

I'm Hunter, CEO of Elk Horn Painting and we hire TOP performers.

The best marketers in the world aren't looking for “a marketing job.” They've had those. They're looking for something rare; a place to build something that matters, with people they love, doing work that adds to their life instead of draining it.

We are too. And we're hoping that's you.

Keep reading if…

  • You're a little obsessed with marketing; you love that it changes constantly, and you stay ahead of it.
  • You want to BUILD and scale a marketing mix. You'd rather be hands on running the ads, writing the copy, and building a killer marketing mix rather than sitting in meetings all day.
  • You're ambitious; financially, and in life. You have big goals and you're going after them.
  • You want your work to add to your life, not take from it.
  • You want to love where you work: the work itself, the people, and what the company stands for.
  • You want to be empowered and given room to perform, because you embody high-performance.
  • You're hungry to learn, grow, and develop; as a professional and as a person.

If that's you, and you're still reading... I'm guessing you haven't yet found a company that lives up to your own standards.

That's exactly why we wrote this.

What it's like to work here

Autonomy. We don't micromanage. We're all adults with a job to do, and we trust each other to do it. We don't manage you, we support you.

A national platform. Elk Horn Painting is the model company for National Painting Group, a portfolio of home-improvement companies out to change how this entire industry works. What you build here doesn't stay here. It becomes the marketing engine we deploy across 50+ companies nationally. You're not building for one painting company. You're building the playbook for a national portfolio, and growing right alongside it.

Growth. We're a high-growth company with big plans and the traction to back them up. We're just as committed to your growth; wherever your ambitions lead, we want to be your guide to getting there.

Training & development. A lot of companies say they invest in their people. We take it to another level, it's a genuine competitive advantage, and it's how our team produces exceptional results without living at the office.

Performance, not hours. We're a culture of value creation and results. As long as you're producing, we support flexible schedules, real time off, and a real life outside of work. This is not a 60-hour-a-week grind. Our people work about 40 hours and produce extraordinary results because of how we operate; not because they burn themselves out.

About Elk Horn Painting

We believe the home-improvement industry is broken, everyone has a horror story about a contractor. We stand for transforming that: an extraordinary experience for every client, every employee, and every contractor.

We're not just passionate about painting houses. We're passionate about serving people, delivering something exceptional, and building a company that impacts people's lives in a meaningful way. We believe the best business is one where everyone wins; employees love their work and are well paid, customers get an experience they brag about at a dinner party, and the business wins big as a result.

We're at the edge of significant growth. That's why we're looking for you.

Requirements

The Role

This is a build-and-run role. You'll own Elk Horn's entire marketing engine, hands-on, and then help us systemize it so it scales across the portfolio.

You'll be the person:

  • Running paid ads. Meta and Google are our core, and you'll personally run them; scaling spend while improving, not just maintaining, cost per lead and lead quality. This is lead generation, not e-commerce.
  • Owning local SEO & Google. Dominate local search, Google Maps, and our Google Business Profile. Our organic should be growing; you'll make it grow.
  • Building the customer journey. You'll build the repeat-and-referral engine; email, SMS, the touchpoints that turn one job into three.
  • Owning the brand. Keep it sharp and consistent across every channel, paid, organic, email, referral, and the door-to-door and local marketing we run through NPG.
  • Growing commercial/B2B. Help us build a real B2B lead-gen system (property managers, professionals) alongside our commercial team.

You won't have a team on day one, you'll have vendors and a blank page. You'll build the systems, prove them, and earn the team as you scale what you've built.

About You

  • You're a hands-on operator, with the magic to lead. You can point to accounts you personally ran and results you personally drove; with real numbers.
  • You've scaled paid spend without blowing up your CAC, and you can explain exactly how.
  • You know local SEO, Google Business Profile, and the Maps pack cold.
  • You love the customer-journey side; repeat, referral, lifetime value. It's not an afterthought for you.
  • You're a genuinely good writer, and you can handle basic design yourself.
  • You're accountable, high-integrity, fast-moving, autonomous but collaborative, ambitious, and you genuinely love people.
  • You hold yourself to a high standard, and everyone around you knows your track record.

Nice to have: B2B/commercial marketing, local direct response (direct mail, flyers, door hangers, lawn signs), and a background in home services or another local, lead-gen business (roofing, HVAC, restoration, or any service scaled through paid ads).

Benefits

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: This role is built for a Marketing Director who knows how to create measurable growth, and our comp structure is aimed to reward exactly that! We anticipate an annual base salary of $150k per year (at minimum)---so this isn’t a cap, it’s the floor.
  • Year 1 OTE, Base + Bonus + Incentives should take our ‘Rockstar’ Marketing Director north of $200k.
  • We’re open to hearing what you need, what you want, and how we can help you meet that.
  • Health insurance: Company contribution up to $400/month toward the plan you choose.
  • 401(k): With matching up to 3%.
  • Unlimited PTO: We treat you like an adult; take the time you need.
  • Professional development: Ongoing training, coaching, and growth we genuinely invest in.
  • The real benefit: A balanced work culture where you do meaningful work with people you respect and build something great, without the sacrifice a director-level role usually demands.

Location: Hybrid, our office is based in Castle Rock, CO. We get together in person roughly every other week, and knowing our market makes you better at this job. Otherwise, work where you work best. This is a full-time role and your sole focus.

How to Apply

Please submit all three:

1. Your resume

2. A short cover letter — why Elk Horn, and why this role

3. A 1–2 minute video — you, on camera, telling us why you'd be a great fit for this role

For a marketing role, that video is also a work sample: show us how you communicate.

**********We won't consider applications without all three.

If you have trouble uploading any of these, email them to [email protected]

What to Expect After You Apply

Our talent team is reviewing applications daily. And while we anticipate high-volume for this role, our goal is to not leave you guessing. We'll let you know if your application is being considered for this role, or we'll let you know if we'll consider your application for a future role that more closely aligns with your skill-set.

Selected Candidates will connect with Vivian Hernandez, Head of Talent.

From there, selected candidates will move to a conversation with me, and then through the rest of our process, which includes meeting several members of our team (we've found that to be one of the most important steps and a great opportunity to learn more about what we do, and who we are).

Ready to build something exceptional with us? We look forward to reviewing your application. Applications will be accepted through October 15, 2026. This deadline may be extended based on hiring needs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
