The posting

Our client is a well-established provider of commercial electrical and integrated security solutions, delivering comprehensive end-to-end services across commercial, industrial, and public sectors. They offer technical solutions ranging from design and drafting through to full system installation and maintenance. With a dedicated focus on quality, compliance, and safety, they coordinate complete project documentation and delivery from award through to final handover.

They are now seeking to hire an Electrical Drafter to establish a consistent workflow for preparing accurate electrical shop drawings and project documentation from job award through to handover. In this role, you will coordinate technical documentation, resolve design discrepancies with project leaders, and ensure drawings are clear, compliant, and ready for site installation.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Drafting & Documentation

  • Develop coordinated electrical shop drawings based on supplied architectural plans, engineering drawings, and specifications
  • Illustrate required electrical equipment, containment, field devices, and installation details clearly
  • Prepare detailed electrical panel layouts detailing equipment arrangements and practical installation dimensions
  • Compile comprehensive cable schedules identifying cable types, references, origins, and destinations
  • Produce accurate equipment take-off documentation to assist project procurement and delivery

Design Coordination & Quality Control

  • Review all supplied documentation prior to commencing drafting to identify missing information or discrepancies
  • Ensure shop drawings, panel layouts, and cable schedules remain coordinated and consistent with one another
  • Maintain clear, legible, and accurate drawing sets suitable for use by on-site installation teams
  • Track drawing revisions systematically and archive up-to-date files in designated project folders
  • Assemble complete handover packs containing PDF drawings, editable CAD files, panel layouts, and cable schedules

Communication & Technical Escalation

  • Raise technical queries and potential design conflicts with the Project Manager prior to finalising drawings
  • Confirm equipment selections, physical dimensions, and layout requirements with the Project Manager
  • Document unresolved technical issues and assumptions for Project Manager review rather than making unverified assumptions
  • Submit completed drawing packages to the Project Manager for final sign-off and site release

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience as an Electrical Drafter preparing electrical shop drawings, panel layouts, and cable schedules
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with editable CAD drawing files and PDF electrical/architectural drawings
  • Practical experience producing accurate equipment take-offs and installation-ready drawing packages
  • Sound understanding of electrical equipment arrangements, containment pathways, and cabling systems
  • Keen eye for detail with the ability to spot discrepancies across engineering documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate queries and document technical details effectively

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Prior drafting experience on Australian commercial or industrial electrical fitouts
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical design standards and installation practices

Benefits

  • Permanent work-from-home set-up
  • Dayshift (Australian Eastern Standard Time business hours)
  • Full-time job
  • HMO (STAFF only)
  • Annual leave
  • 13-month pay
  • With Government mandated benefits

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
