Role Overview

Designer Group is seeking an experienced Electrical QA/QC Lead to take ownership of all electrical quality assurance and quality control activities on a major power generation project. This is a fully site-based position and will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the safe delivery, testing, inspection, commissioning, and handover of all electrical systems in accordance with project specifications, client requirements, and industry standards.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership to the project QA/QC team, manage subcontractor quality performance, drive quality initiatives across the project lifecycle, and serve as the primary interface between the site team, client representatives, consultants, and commissioning stakeholders.

Previous power generation experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Management

  • Lead and manage all electrical QA/QC activities across the project.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and direction to QA/QC engineers, inspectors, and subcontractor quality teams.
  • Develop and implement project-specific quality plans, procedures, inspection test plans (ITPs), and quality reporting systems.
  • Establish quality objectives and ensure compliance throughout all phases of construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Drive a culture of quality excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across the project.
  • Chair quality meetings and provide regular progress updates to senior project management and client teams.
  • Manage quality-related interfaces between construction, commissioning, engineering, and client stakeholders.
  • Ensure all quality documentation is completed, reviewed, approved, and issued in accordance with project requirements.

Site QA/QC Management

  • Oversee all on-site inspection and testing activities for electrical installations.
  • Manage the inspection process from installation through pre-commissioning, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Review and approve inspection records, test results, redline drawings, and quality dossiers.
  • Monitor subcontractor workmanship and ensure compliance with approved procedures and specifications.
  • Coordinate site quality inspections with client representatives, consultants, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead the management and close-out of NCRs, site observations, punch lists, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure all quality issues are identified, investigated, tracked, and successfully resolved.

Technical & Commissioning Responsibilities

  • Review and validate electrical designs and technical submittals.
  • Coordinate commissioning readiness inspections and support system energisation activities.
  • Manage commissioning schedules in collaboration with construction and commissioning teams.
  • Review and approve test packs and turnover documentation.
  • Assist with commissioning and performance testing activities to ensure successful project handover.
  • Ensure all electrical installations comply with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate RFIs and technical queries with consultants, client teams, and designers.

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Maintain control of all QA/QC documentation including:
  • Inspection records
  • Test reports
  • Material certificates
  • Calibration records
  • NCRs and corrective actions
  • Site instructions
  • Turnover documentation
  • Conduct internal quality audits in accordance with the Project Quality Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all company quality procedures and client requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned exercises.

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Promote and lead safe working practices on site.
  • Ensure all quality activities are executed in accordance with project HSE requirements.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8+ years' experience in electrical QA/QC, commissioning, or quality management roles.
  • Previous experience on power generation projects is essential.
  • Proven experience leading site-based QA/QC teams on large-scale industrial, energy, power, or EPC projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical installations, testing, commissioning, and systems handover processes.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary project interfaces.
  • Excellent understanding of quality management systems, inspection procedures, and industry codes and standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to drive quality performance while working to demanding project schedules.

Desirable

  • ISO 9001 quality management experience.
  • Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Previous experience on combined cycle, thermal, renewable, battery storage, or other utility-scale power generation projects.
  • Experience working within EPC or MEP contracting environments.
