Kia ora!

We’re Boost, a Wellington-based software development company with a mission to create positive impacts for public sector organisations and the people who use them. We're looking for a motivated, experienced UX/UI Designer who shares our passion for making a difference and enjoys solving interesting problems.

If you’re excited by the idea of working as part of a collaborative, high-performing team on some of the most interesting projects around, we’d love for you to join our next hiring event on 16th September and experience our team culture firsthand.

Boost / Te Hihiri

For the last 24 years we’ve been delivering positive and lasting impacts to New Zealanders. Our digital solutions are custom-built and focused on providing the best experience for our users. We’re a purpose-led, values-driven organisation and are always looking for new ways to make Boost the best place to work in Aotearoa.

Requirements

About You

At Boost we believe a great UX/UI Designer will embody our values and build strong relationships with our clients and team in order to solve complex and interesting problems.

We’d love to meet you if you:

  • enjoy working as part of a driven, high-performing team
  • have a curious mind and a desire to learn more everyday
  • enjoy building relationships
  • know how to self direct
  • value receiving and sharing knowledge
  • adapt well to ambiguity and change
  • are comfortable working in an iterative, Agile way.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • a couple of years' work experience designing user-centred digital products, with some strong examples of work demonstrating your UX and UI skills and process.
  • expertise using design and prototyping tools like Figma
  • a visual design degree, or post graduate degree in UX.
  • familiarity with AI design tools.

Key responsibilities

  • Design bespoke digital experiences, from user research and wireframes through to high-fidelity UI and prototypes.
  • Conduct and contribute to user research, usability testing, and other discovery activities to inform design decisions.
  • Work as part of an Agile team - producing work early, testing frequently and learning as you go.
  • Create and maintain design systems and component libraries that support consistent, accessible experiences across our applications.
  • Collaborate closely with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and translate well into working software.
  • Champion accessibility and usability best practice across all our digital solutions.
  • Understand how AI tools can enhance productivity, automate tasks, and improve design workflows.
  • Take initiative and be resourceful in problem-solving.
  • Work in a small, dedicated and high-performing Agile software team.
  • Work closely with Product Owners and our development team.
  • Continuously learn and share knowledge to grow the design team's capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with Boost team members and clients.
  • Contribute to our award-winning culture by practising our core organisational values.

Benefits

Our Culture

Boost prides itself on the company culture we've built through our strong purpose and values. Day to day, you’ll enjoy:

  • being part of a team that supports others to make a positive and lasting impact
  • an environment that fosters continuous learning and growth
  • being part of a team that embraces genuine work/life balance
  • a workplace where you have the freedom to share ideas and experiment
  • a team that likes to celebrate success together
  • a WorldBlu-certified democratic workplace that encourages leadership on all levels with no top-down management; we want you to have a strong voice in shaping Boost, and the work we choose to do.

We prize our values, and our team is courageous, responsible, and cares about service over status. We want our team to continue to grow with like-minded people who embody the same qualities.

Recruitment process

Our Test-drive Boost event is a hands-on experience where you’ll collaborate on problem-solving activities with our team. This gives you the chance to meet our team, participate in how we work, and decide if Boost feels like the right fit for you.

Our next Test-drive Boost event date is yet to be confirmed.

For your application to be considered, send us:

  • your CV
  • some examples of your previous work, process and design skills - or your portfolio if you have one
  • a cover letter sharing a bit about you and why you're interested in joining our team.

If you have any questions for our team, you can contact us at [email protected]

Good to know

  • Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
  • This is a full-time role based in our Wellington office - we're not looking for remote applicants.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.
