The posting

We are seeking an energetic, target-driven and community-savvy Amharic speaking Field Sales Representative to join our Sales team, based in Tembisa with a willingness to work across other Gauteng areas as business needs require. This role is responsible for building and growing ikeja's presence among small established businesses - spaza shops, hair salons, taverns, car washes and similar local businesses - converting leads into paying, activated customers and building lasting relationships with the local business community.

If you thrive on daily targets, enjoy working directly with people and take pride in delivering an honest, high-quality sales experience, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field-based canvassing within assigned areas, with a strong focus on engaging small and established local businesses, as well as residential customers.
  • Generate new customer leads and sign-ups through direct, face-to-face sales activities.
  • Achieve and maintain monthly sales targets across assigned products and areas.
  • Clearly and accurately explain product offerings, pricing and the customer onboarding and installation process.
  • Complete all required customer documentation and system entries accurately and timeously.
  • Follow up on leads and prospective customers to support successful conversion and installation.
  • Build positive relationships with local businesses, customers and community stakeholders to generate referrals and new sales opportunities.
  • Provide feedback on competitor activity, customer needs and market opportunities within assigned areas.
  • Represent ikeja professionally and in accordance with company branding, conduct and ethical selling standards.
  • Attend sales briefings, training sessions and team meetings as required.
  • Comply with all relevant company policies, customer consent requirements and sales procedures.
  • Support sales activations, promotions, community events and other initiatives as required.
  • Build and maintain a network of Brand Ambassadors to support sales activity and brand awareness within assigned communities.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid South African driver's licence (Code B or higher).
  • Minimum 1 year's driving experience with a valid driver's licence.
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience in direct sales, field sales, door-to-door sales, or another target-driven sales environment; experience selling to small businesses would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Fluent in spoken Amharic and English - required to effectively engage and communicate with customers within the assigned market.
  • Good knowledge of, or willingness to work extensively within, Tembisa and surrounding Gauteng areas. Residing in or near Tembisa would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, on foot and in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Computer and smartphone literate, with the ability to use digital sign-up and reporting tools. Full training will be provided on internal systems.
  • Own reliable transport.
  • Willing and able to work weekends and extended hours where operationally required.
  • Comfortable working within township and community environments.
  • Willing to travel to other areas across Gauteng as business needs require.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent verbal communication and persuasion skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to handle rejection while remaining motivated.
  • Strong target and results orientation.
  • High level of integrity and honesty - no misrepresentation of products, pricing, or promises made to customers.
  • Good listening skills and a customer service orientation.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with small business owners.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong local community and business-network engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Adaptable, proactive and self-driven.
  • Reliable, punctual and accountable for daily activity and results.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a high-volume lead pipeline.
  • Safety conscious with responsible driving habits.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, community-oriented sales professional who wants to make a direct, measurable impact on ikeja's growth among small businesses in Tembisa and across Gauteng.

Benefits

  • The opportunity to grow both in your personal and professional capacity.
  • Health insurance and provident fund.
  • Group risk cover.
  • Access to an online wellness platform, providing free and confidential support from licensed therapists.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
