We are seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer specializing in Hamilton and Tecan automated liquid handling platforms to provide remote, on-site, and in-house facility support to biotech, pharmaceutical, and clinical laboratory clients. This role ensures optimal system performance, uptime, and compliance across a range of automated liquid handling and lab automation systems and includes hands-on refurbishment work performed at our Cerritos facility as well as service at client sites.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and application-related issues, including robotic arms, pipetting channels, grippers, and integrated peripherals (plate readers, sealers, incubators, barcode readers).
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibrations to meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Perform refurbishment and reconditioning of Hamilton and Tecan systems and components at our Cerritos facility, including disassembly, cleaning, parts replacement, reassembly, and functional testing to bring equipment back to spec prior to redeployment or resale.
  • Support installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and validation of new liquid handling systems and integrated automation workcells.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize automation scripts/methods (Hamilton Venus, Tecan EVOware/FluentControl).
  • Provide technical training and guidance to laboratory personnel on instrument operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, compliance records, and documentation of all service and refurbishment activities.
  • Partner with engineering, customer service, and technical support teams to expedite resolution of complex issues.
  • Extend support to adjacent lab automation platforms as needed (e.g., Beckman Biomek, Agilent Bravo).

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience servicing, programming, or supporting Hamilton and/or Tecan liquid handling platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of Hamilton Venus and/or Tecan EVOware/FluentControl software.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills (robotics, pneumatics, motion control systems).
  • Comfortable performing bench-level refurbishment and repair work in a shop/facility setting in addition to client-facing field service.
  • Familiarity with LIMS, scheduling software, or lab automation integration is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in client environments while maintaining a professional, service-oriented approach.

  • Prior experience with equipment refurbishment, reconditioning, or bench repair work is a plus.
  • Experience with other automation platforms (Beckman Biomek, Agilent Bravo, Thermo Momentum) preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (GLP/GMP, ISO, FDA/21 CFR Part 11) is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
