Looking for Philippines-based candidates

Job Role: Financial Controller (Part-Time)

Compensation range: $1,000 AUD - $1,500 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to require roughly 15-20 hours per week. As a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your schedule, but availability for occasional collaboration during AU business hours is preferred.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. You will be hired directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote, so you'll be able to work from home.

Who the Client Is: The client is a growing health and wellness business offering a range of products and personalised wellness services designed to support long-term health outcomes. With an established customer base and a strong commitment to education-driven marketing, the business combines holistic wellness solutions with digital customer engagement strategies to expand its reach and impact. As the business continues to grow, they are focused on strengthening the digital marketing function, particularly in paid social advertising and customer lifecycle campaigns, to drive product sales, improve campaign performance, and support long-term brand growth.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Financial Controller to take full ownership of the organisation's finance function while acting as a strategic financial advisor to the executive team. This is a standalone role where you'll be responsible for establishing and managing the company's financial systems, processes, reporting, payroll oversight, compliance, and long-term financial direction.

As one of your first priorities, you will lead the implementation of Xero and establish robust accounting processes that will support the business as it continues to grow. The ideal candidate has extensive experience working as a Financial Controller within an Australian business, enjoys building finance functions from the ground up, and is confident providing commercial insights that influence business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the organisation's day-to-day financial management and reporting functions
  • Prepare and review monthly management reports, financial statements, and executive reporting packs
  • Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to support business growth and executive decision-making.
  • Establish and implement Xero, including designing the company's accounting processes and financial controls.
  • Take full ownership of payroll oversight, compliance, and financial governance across the organisation.
  • Build and continuously improve finance systems, workflows, and internal processes to support business scalability.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities
  • Monitor financial performance and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
  • Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and relevant financial regulations
  • Review reconciliations, general ledger accuracy, and month-end close processes
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls, policies, and governance frameworks
  • Support external accountants, auditors, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Analyse business performance, profitability, and financial trends
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and operational efficiencies
  • Support business planning, financial modelling, and strategic decision-making
  • Provide guidance and oversight to bookkeeping or finance support staff where required

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification is highly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working specifically as a Financial Controller for an Australian business.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller with end-to-end responsibility for the finance function within an Australian business.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Xero and establishing accounting systems and financial processes from the ground up.
  • Extensive experience managing payroll oversight and ensuring compliance with Australian payroll requirements.
  • Experience acting as a trusted financial advisor to business owners or executive leadership teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cash flow management
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting platforms such as Xero, MYOB, or similar
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial modelling capability
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Experience implementing finance systems or process improvements
  • Knowledge of payroll oversight and compliance
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively with senior stakeholders
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail

Nice to Have

  • Experience working within healthcare, allied health, wellness, or not-for-profit organisations
  • Experience supporting growing SMEs or multi-site organisations
  • Familiarity with Power BI or financial reporting dashboards
  • Experience mentoring finance team members

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that may be set up as either an independent contractor engagement or via an Employer of Record (EOR), depending on client preferences and legal structure.

To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Be available for meetings and collaboration during core [AEST or PHT] business hours
  • Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile (clearly marked as “Independent Contractor” if not employed via EOR)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
