The posting

Head of Technology (USA) - Hybrid (Greater Los Angeles, CA)

About the Role

Reporting to the GM – Technology, the purpose of the Head of Technology is to run Eco Outdoor's technology operations and delivery day to day, so our systems, vendors and projects keep pace with a business growing quickly across the US, Australia, and New Zealand.

This role keeps our core platforms and partners (Salesforce, NetSuite, website and IT managed service providers) reliable and well supported, delivers technology projects on time and on budget, and builds a function that can scale shoulder-to-shoulder with the business. It also owns the technology in our offices and showrooms, and a repeatable model for fitting out new US locations.

The Head of Technology partners closely with the GM Technology as a genuine deputy, and with leaders across Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, People & Culture, Product, and Finance in both the US and Australia.

The role is onsite/hybrid and based in the greater Los Angeles, CA area. The working schedule is 10:00am – 6:00pm (Pacific Time), Monday to Friday. The later start is intended to give daily overlap with our Sydney team. The role includes occasional travel to Sydney and to our team in Semarang, Indonesia.

Key Outputs

Technology Operations and Managed Services

  • Keep our core business systems, Salesforce, NetSuite and our digital platforms, stable, secure and well supported across every region.
  • Own day-to-day IT service across Australia and the US, delivered through our IT managed services partners, so our people get fast, reliable support wherever they work.
  • Set and track service standards with each partner, with regular service reviews, so issues are resolved within SLAs and root causes are fixed rather than patched.
  • Lead the evaluation of whether our managed services partners are fit to support the business's future growth, and drive the changes needed where they aren't.

Workplace Technology

  • Make sure day-to-day physical technology works seamlessly across our offices and showrooms: AV, hardware and devices, office networking and wireless access points.
  • Own the hardware lifecycle, from procurement and setup through to maintenance and replacement.

Showroom and Site Buildouts

  • Partner with our Showroom Development and Construction Manager to support our physical growth across the US.
  • Build a repeatable, documented technology model for new showrooms and sites, covering network, AV and hardware standards, suppliers, budgets and timelines.
  • Make sure every new location opens technology-ready from day one, and refine the model with each build.

Delivery

  • Run the technology project register and delivery cadence: scope, priority, timelines, budgets and status reporting.
  • Make sure projects ship on time and to budget, with dependencies and risks surfaced early.
  • Translate business needs from Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, People & Culture, Product, and Finance into clear priorities, with structure and discipline around how new work is requested and signed off.

Vendors, Partners and Procurement

  • Own our relationships with technology vendors and agencies in Australia and the US, leading procurement and contract renewals and holding them to agreed outcomes.
  • Keep technology spend visible and within budget.

Leadership and Deputy to the GM Technology

  • Lead a distributed team across the US, Australia and Indonesia, spanning systems engineering, systems administration and website, with working rhythms that make the most of our overlapping hours.
  • Set clear priorities, coach and develop the team, and build a culture of ownership and follow-through.
  • Represent technology in operational decisions, and step in for the GM Technology when needed.
  • Be the senior, accountable, visible technology presence in our US business as it grows.

Security, Governance and Continuous Improvement

  • Own day-to-day security across our systems, devices and networks, working with our managed services partners on access management, patching, backups and incident response, and reporting on cyber risk to the GM Technology.
  • Maintain clear documentation and processes across our core systems.
  • Work with our architecture and data leads so operational work supports our AI and automation roadmap.

Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years' experience in technology operations, IT or business systems, including at least 3 years leading teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce and/or NetSuite, whether in administration, integration or management.
  • A proven track record delivering technology projects with strong delivery discipline, whether Agile, waterfall or a mix.
  • Experience managing vendors, agencies and IT managed services providers, including negotiating contracts and scopes of work, and running a partner evaluation or transition.
  • Working knowledge of physical IT infrastructure (networking, wireless, AV and end-user hardware) and cyber security frameworks such as NIST or CIS.
  • Experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Enough technical depth to evaluate vendor proposals and have detailed conversations with engineers and architects, so the business gets long-term value.
  • A degree in IT, engineering or business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of change management when delivering technology to the business, with the ability to build buy-in from business stakeholders and sponsors.
  • Bonus: experience in a growing multi-region business, rolling out technology for new retail, showroom or office locations, or exposure to data platforms, AI and automation.
  • Please note that we require full permanent working rights for this position.

Behaviors

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical leaders, whilst being comfortable presenting at all-in company meetings.
  • A true collaborator who builds strong relationships across regions and functions.
  • A solution-focused mindset, with the judgement to make calls independently.
  • Organized and accountable: you follow through and don't let things drop.
  • A strong sense of curiosity, particularly about how AI and automation can change the way work gets done.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
