The posting

Civic is a team of system thinkers in the built environment, creating positive impact for people, places and the planet.

We want our work to have a positive impact on the environment — helping people to live healthier, happier lives while respecting natural limits. We build without destroying, explore without exploiting, and seek to reuse rather than just consume. Above all, we listen, learn, and aim to create a lasting legacy.

Thriving together, today we have a team of over 200 members working across the UK, all united by our creative belief, bringing art and science together to solve problems. Our award-winning practice has studios in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Requirements

As an Intermediate/Design Engineer, you will take an active role in the delivery of a variety of building projects across the UK, across a range of sectors including residential, education, commercial development, leisure, net zero/low carbon and regeneration. You will have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts with a variety of engineering and consultancy skills to provide integrated coordinated designs with high profile private and public-sector clients and collaborators within an award-winning practice.

Day-to-day task and expectations

· Provide engineering discipline design, analysis, calculation and drawing input

· From time to time supervising apprentices and graduates

· Identifying problems and opportunities, assessing and resolving problems using qualitative and quantitative measures

· Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and risk assessments for proposed designs.

· Collaborate with project stakeholders, including architects, structural engineers, and contractors, to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly

· Inputting into the production of high-quality written reports on a range of projects

· Preparation, presentation of technical data, drawings and tenders under the supervision of others

· Use of industry standard analysis and calculation software

· Being part of internal reviews

· Self-checking and checking others’ work

· Compliance with the duties of Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015

· Compliance with the practice QMS, including self-checking

· Communicate clearly and openly internally and externally with peers and clients

· Manage your own project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively

This is an opportunity to join a growing Building Services MEP team and contribute to the delivery of well-coordinated, sustainable and technically robust projects. We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and keen to develop their Mechanical engineering capability within a collaborative engineering environment.

Is this you?

You’ll be an experienced mechanical engineer with a good understanding of Building Services MEP and a keen eye for technical detail. Collaborative, proactive and organised, you’ll enjoy working closely with engineers and wider design teams to produce accurate, coordinated and well-presented designs and models.

With a helpful and positive approach, you’ll thrive within an innovative practice that is committed to sustainable design and making a positive impact on the built environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
