About the Project

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Indra a long-term contract to operate, develop, enhance and expand ticketing and access control systems across London’s transport network through to 2034, with extension options to 2039.

This programme covers the maintenance, operation and evolution of a large-scale, complex ecosystem, including turnstiles, validators, ticket machines, sales terminals, back-office systems, payment gateways, IT infrastructure and cybersecurity that supports over 8.6 million daily journeys.

Therefore, Indra will become TfL’s strategic technology partner to guarantee the operation and evolution of the world’s largest and most sophisticated ticketing system. Following a transition period of approximately two years, Indra will serve as the sole provider across the network that includes more than 8,500 buses, nearly 400 Underground stations, around 300 rail stations (Overground, DLR, Elizabeth Line and suburban services), 4,000 Oyster Card outlets, seven customer service centres, and 24 river boat boarding points.

Drawing on over 30 years of experience in urban public transport solutions, Indra will manage and evolve all aspects of the system. The project also envisages, in partnership with TfL, the implementation of new technologies to develop the system, make it more efficient and automate key processes; in short, to jointly create the next generation of the ticketing system for London.

Role Overview

We are seeking an IT Network Manager to lead the delivery, transition and operation of enterprise network services, ensuring that network infrastructure is secure, resilient and capable of supporting business operations.

This is a transition-focused leadership role with strong network technical depth. During the initial phase of the contract, the successful candidate will play a key role in the transition of network services from the incumbent supplier to the new operating model, with a significant focus on service transition activities, knowledge transfer, operational readiness and establishing the future support organisation.

The role will work closely with outgoing supplier teams, internal engineering teams, service management functions, third-party suppliers and customer stakeholders. The emphasis is on maximising shadowing and reverse-shadowing value, capturing knowledge effectively, validating operational processes and supporting a smooth, low-risk transition into Business-as-Usual operations.

The position will progressively evolve from transition leadership into ongoing operational leadership and management of the network service.

Requirements

  • Service delivery, transition and operation: Lead the delivery, transition and ongoing operation of network services, translating transition objectives into clear activities, deliverables, dependencies and acceptance evidence.
  • Team and supplier management: Manage network engineers and third-party suppliers, acting as the primary point of contact between engineering teams, suppliers, service management functions and customer stakeholders.
  • Knowledge transfer and operational readiness: Plan, coordinate and govern service transition activities, including shadowing, reverse-shadowing, operational validation and service acceptance, ensuring effective knowledge transfer from incumbent suppliers.
  • Operational procedures and service preparation: Ensure operational readiness, service acceptance criteria, support documentation and knowledge transfer activities are completed successfully and can support a controlled handover into BAU operations.
  • Service management governance: Oversee incident, problem, change and service request management processes, and ensure compliance with security, operational and business requirements.
  • Infrastructure governance and project coordination: Coordinate upgrades, service improvements and network-related projects, while reviewing and governing network architectures and technical solutions.
  • Risk, performance and stakeholder communication: Manage network risks, issues, dependencies and service performance; provide regular reporting and stakeholder communication.
  • Continuous service improvement: Support the development and implementation of continuous service improvement initiatives focused on service quality, resilience and sustainable operations.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
