Title: Lab Technician

Location: Santa Clara, CA(Onsite)

Type: 6+ Month Contract

Rate: $Open /hr.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Lab / Data Center Technician with 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory or data center environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with equipment rack and stack, network cabling, device auditing, basic networking, VMware, Windows, and Linux administration. The candidate should also have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage ticket queues and respond to requests within SLA requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enable remote access to lab services for end users through SSL VPN, RDP, VNC, and View Client.
  • Perform rack and stack activities for network and lab equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable lab environment.
  • Identify different types of network cables, connectors, and their appropriate applications.
  • Audit physical and virtual devices, including connections, serial numbers, and IP addresses.
  • Maintain and update lab and infrastructure documentation.
  • Act as a ticket queue lead, monitoring incoming tickets and assigning or reassigning tickets to appropriate team members or groups.
  • Review incoming requests and ticket updates daily and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Build and cable network topologies based on requirements from Engineers and Lab Administrators.
  • Monitor power and cooling usage within the lab and identify potential issues.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of network outages and connectivity issues.
  • Use SSH and console access to connect to network devices.
  • Follow established SLA requirements and prioritize tickets appropriately.
  • Communicate clearly through email, messaging, and ticket updates.
  • Maintain strong follow-up and responsiveness to user and engineering requests.
  • Follow proper safety and equipment-handling procedures, including the ability to lift equipment weighing 50+ lbs.

Requirements

  • 2 –3 years of experience working in a lab, data center, network operations, or similar technical environment
  • Basic network troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic experience working with firewalls.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Arista switches is preferred.
  • Basic Windows administration experience.
  • Basic VMware administration, including powering VMs on/off.
  • Basic experience with CentOS, Ubuntu, or other Linux distributions.
  • Strong understanding of copper and fiber-optic cabling.
  • Experience with fiber and copper cable installation and management in a data center environment.
  • Strong understanding of patch panels and cable connections.
  • Ability to identify and manage different cable types and connections.
  • Familiarity with SSL VPN, RDP, VNC, and remote-access technologies.
  • Ability to SSH and console into network devices.
  • Understanding of basic power and cooling requirements in a lab/data center.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and prioritize work according to SLA requirements.
