The posting

Our Lighting Artists are responsible for lighting shots in Houdini using Arnold. The role focuses on delivering final renders that integrate seamlessly into comp, with attention to visual quality, render efficiency, and scene cleanliness.

Responsibilities:

  • Shot Lighting: Light shots in Houdini using SOP-based workflows and Arnold.
  • Look Matching: Match lighting style, mood, and continuity based on references or templates.
  • Integration: Ensure renders hold up in comp by reviewing slap comps and render passes.
  • Problem Solving: Address missing data, render issues, or workflow inconsistencies. Support the shot with problem-solving and strong integration across departments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with comp, layout, and FX to align lighting with shot needs.
  • Optimisation: Keep scenes efficient and caches manageable for farm submission. Deliver noise free renders that match the creative direction of the show and that are production-ready.
  • Scene Organisation: Maintain clean lighting scenes with clear naming and version control.
  • Feedback: Respond to notes from leads and supervisors quickly and effectively. Be open to feedback and work iteratively to reach final quality.
  • Communication: Keep the team updated on progress and flag blockers early.
  • Proactivity: Prioritise tasks effectively, keep meetings and contributions concise, and respect others' time. Work independently on briefs while maintaining team alignment and standards.

What we are looking for:

  • Proficient in Houdini (SOP-based lighting workflows) and Arnold rendering.
  • Good understanding of light, shadow, colour, and photorealism.
  • Solid grasp of AOVs, render settings, and scene management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with USD/LOPs workflows in Houdini.
  • Experience with render troubleshooting and lighting automation.
  • Karma familiarity is a plus.
  • Excellent communicator, sharing information clearly and actively listening
  • Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate delays in a timely manner.
  • Adaptable to change with the ability to stay focused and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Driven to make things better with flexibility to change course when needed.
  • Positive energy, focusing on results and having a positive impact on those around you.
  • Self awareness and an ability to resolve and diffuse problems treating others with kindness and respect.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • 3–4 years in VFX or a related field.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
