About the Role
The Marine Engine Driver plays a vital role in keeping our vessels safe, reliable and ready for every journey. Working alongside our Vessel Master, Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager, you’ll combine hands-on technical work with safety leadership, teamwork and exceptional guest service in a role where no two days are the same.
What You'll Be Doing
- Help deliver safe, secure & efficient vessel operations under the direction of the Vessel Master
- Monitor engines, machinery & mechanical systems
- Complete engineering & daily task logs, and act quickly when defects arise
- Undertake scheduled & preventative maintenance, repairs, annual maintenance, docking and bunkering activities
- Keep maintenance system accurate and current, including work orders, maintenance records and parts requirements
- Maintain an organised, clean and safe engine room, with tools, equipment & engineering stores ready for use
- Take an active role in safety drills, risk assessments & emergency procedures, and proactively report hazards, incidents & environmental risks promptly
- Support the safe loading, carriage & unloading of guests & freight, and assist with passenger comfort & safety
- Provide warm, professional customer service and lend a hand across vessel operations when required
- Contribute ideas that strengthen Safety Management Systems and operating procedures
Requirements
About You
You’re a practical, safety-minded marine professional who enjoys solving problems and keeping vessels performing at their best. Calm under pressure and dependable by nature, you follow instructions, communicate clearly and work seamlessly as part of a crew. You take pride in high standards, build positive working relationships and understand that every technical task contributes to a safe and memorable guest experience. Comfortable with computer-based systems, you bring sound diagnostic ability, initiative and the flexibility to support the wider operation.
You have the ability to work independently across vessel services and maintenance tasks, mentor other engineers and contribute to continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will have the physical capacity to work on their feet for extended periods and safely lift & move stock weighing up to 20 kg. They will hold full working rights in Australia.
Qualifications and Experience
- MED II qualification
- Driver's licence
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Demonstrated marine engineering, mechanical maintenance & fault-diagnostic skills
- Experience working safely within operational procedures, statutory requirements and maintenance schedules
- Computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records
- Confined space certification, elevated work platform licence, trade certificate, and dogman and/or rigger licence (desirable)
- Experience in tourism, passenger transport or a customer-focused marine environment (desirable)
