ABOUT FATHOM ROBOTICS

Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, training, and applied engineering services for uncrewed maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We have multiple active projects across a variety of government and commercial clients and are actively fielding systems in operational environments.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Fathom Robotics is hiring a Maritime Logistics & Deployment Manager to survey government test ranges and their supporting ports, then run the logistics to stage and operate uncrewed surface vessels at those sites. You will report to the USV Fleet Director.

The fleet is 9 to 100ft USVs with various propulsion types, plus crewed support vessels that may arrive by sea or air carrying sensitive payloads.

Your call on a site has to hold up when the vessel and payload arrive.

LOCATION: Remote (U.S.), preferably near Ventura County, CA or Eglin AFB, FL

WORK TYPE: Full-Time

CLEARANCE: Active Secret

PROGRAM CONDITIONS

Travel averages about 25% and runs higher during the surveys, which cover government test ranges and ports across the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific, including remote and overseas locations. After the surveys, the work becomes ongoing deployment planning and support, with travel tied to deployment schedules. Site access is arranged through the government sponsor and follows host range schedules, so dates can shift on short notice. Expect outdoor work in all weather on piers, ramps, and yards, travel by air, vehicle, and boat, and lifting and carrying equipment. Some sites are escorted and access is restricted. First site visits begin in mid December. Benefits include health coverage, a 401(k), and relocation assistance if you move near Ventura County or Eglin.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and own the site assessment matrix used at every range and port
  • Survey piers, boat ramps, laydown yards, and staging areas for their ability to support 9 to 100ft USVs of various propulsion types and crewed support vessels
  • Evaluate crane, forklift, and trailer capacity, reach, and access, along with fuel, shore power, berthing, storage, and road access, and record whether each is host operated, available to contractors, or must be brought by Fathom
  • Review host support agreements, range scheduling, and access processes with range staff and the government sponsor
  • Identify shortfalls, recommend fixes, and write a report for each site and a consolidated final report
  • Produce the deployment plan for the government: which vessels and equipment to acquire, where to stage them, what it costs, and on what timeline
  • Direct survey support staff and contractors during the survey phase
  • Plan and manage deployments of USVs, crewed support vessels, and payloads, and lead logistics on site from staging through launch, recovery, and return
  • Arrange sea and air transport, port and range access, host support, and local equipment such as cranes, forklifts, trailers, and fuel
  • Make sure every shipment meets hazmat, lithium battery, ITAR and export control, controlled cargo, and classified custody requirements, working with Fathom's security and compliance staff
  • Track and account for vessels and equipment, including government furnished and contractor acquired property
  • Keep the site matrix current with what each deployment teaches us, and support proposals and customer requests with logistics plans

Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of maritime logistics, port operations, or expeditionary small boat support
  • Hands-on experience judging piers, ramps, and yards for vessel launch, recovery, berthing, and lift
  • Working knowledge of crane load charts, rigging, forklift capacity at load center, and heavy haul trailer operations
  • Experience with vessels up to 100ft
  • Experience planning and executing the movement of vessels and heavy equipment by sea, air, and road
  • Clear technical writing and the ability to build a repeatable assessment standard
  • Able to travel approximately 25% of the time, including to remote and overseas sites, and to work outdoors and on boats
  • U.S. citizen

Preferred Backgrounds:

  • Military veteran with logistics, expeditionary, small boat, or port operations experience, such as Navy supply or expeditionary logistics, Army watercraft or transportation, or Marine Corps logistics
  • Commercial port operations manager, project cargo or heavy lift logistics manager, marine superintendent, or defense freight forwarder
  • Logistics experience on a USV, UUV, or other uncrewed systems program
  • Understanding of, and experience with, hazardous materials and lithium battery shipping rules, ITAR and export controls, and the handling of controlled cargo
  • Prior work at Navy, Air Force, or Army test ranges or in major range host support
  • Experience supporting deployments to remote or overseas sites, including moving sensitive or classified payloads by sea and air and clearing overseas customs
  • Marine surveyor credential (SAMS or NAMS) or USCG license

Benefits

Compensation: $145,000–$178,000/year, commensurate with experience

Start Date: Contingent upon contract award, in the near term. We are running our hiring process now so we can bring the right person on quickly once award is confirmed.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
