The posting

Maritime Trainee 2027 – Start your career in an international maritime and offshore services company!

Are you finishing your master’s degree and curious about how global offshore and subsea operations are run, from technical solutions and vessel operations to business decisions and finance?

DOF is looking for 2 Maritime Trainees for the 2027 cohort:

  • One trainee with an engineering background who will mainly explore Subsea and Technical disciplines
  • One trainee with a legal, business, supply chain or finance background for a Corporate track.

As a Maritime Trainee in DOF, you will get the opportunity to start your career in an international maritime and offshore services company while taking part in a structured 18-month trainee programme. From August 2027, you will combine practical work experience in DOF with academic modules, industry learning and networking with other trainees across the maritime sector.

Your impact in DOF

As a trainee, you will get meaningful assignments from early on and gain insight into how DOF operates across vessels, offshore services, projects, technology and business functions. Depending on your background and business needs, your rotations and tasks may include:

  • Subsea & Technical track: engineering, technical solutions, vessel/project operations, risk assessments, project execution and collaboration with offshore and onshore teams.
  • Corporate track: contract follow-up, insurance and claims processes, supply chain projects, risk and liability assessments, compliance, governance, finance and commercial support.

You will rotate through relevant departments, work closely with experienced colleagues, and be supported by supervisors and a mentor throughout the programme. After completion of the programme, you will enter into a full-time role in DOF, matching with your experience and qualifications.

Who are you?

We are looking for curious, motivated and analytical master’s graduates who want to build a career in the maritime and offshore industry. You may be a good match if you have:

  • A master’s degree in engineering, marine technology, mechanical/subsea technology, law, industrial economics, finance, business, supply chain management or similar.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, a business mindset and an interest in technology and maritime operations.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Is this the perfect role for you, but you don’t meet every single requirement? We value the right person over a perfect match to a job description. Research shows that underrepresented groups are less likely to apply unless they meet every listed requirement, and we don’t want that to hold great talent back, so we encourage you to apply. It’s the best way for us to find the right talent for this role, or another, and that could be you.

Why choose DOF?

In DOF, you will join a global company with a strong local presence and real opportunities to learn from experienced people across disciplines. We offer:

  • A structured trainee journey: rotations, learning, mentoring and industry networking.
  • Real responsibility: meaningful tasks connected to our daily operations and business.
  • Career growth: opportunities to explore different paths and build a broad understanding of DOF.
  • A strong employee package: competitive pension and insurance schemes, physical activity subsidy, numerous social events and access to company apartments at Myrkdalen.
  • A global environment: colleagues, vessels and projects across several regions.

About the Maritime Trainee programme

Maritime Trainee is one of the leading management trainee programs in Norway. It is organized for the industry by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association, in cooperation with Menon Economics. The programme lasts for 18 months and combines working in a world-leading maritime company with an academic programme consisting of five modules in Norway, Singapore, Copenhagen and London. The modules are focused around key areas such as maritime knowledge across the ocean industries (including technology development and environment perspective, geopolitical landscape and security and contingency), management competencies and corporate social responsibility. The trainees gain a broad overview of the maritime industry and the necessary skills and capabilities to succeed in a management position in the future.

Practical information

Office location: At our Marineholmen office in Bergen, Norway. This is an onshore position.

Start date: August 2027 Application deadline: 04.10.2026. Applications will be reviewed continuously.

Recruitment process: All applications must be submitted through our application portal Workable. Selected candidates will go through an initial screening. Shortlisted candidates will then continue on to interviews. You may also be asked to present a business case during a 2nd interview.

Applications for the Subsea & Technical track may also be considered for Graduate Engineering positions.

Security assessment: For this position, DOF will conduct an assessment of the applicant's security suitability, including affiliations to high-risk countries and a background check. High-risk countries are defined as those that, according to the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), are considered to pose a threat to Norway’s national security interests. Please note that the outcome of such assessments may affect the recruitment process and the possibility of employment. According to Norwegian security authorities, candidates with affiliation to high-risk countries may pose a potential security risk because they are more vulnerable to being exploited and/or recruited by state threat actors. The assessment of affiliation to high-risk countries is carried out by asking all applicants to answer questions designed to identify any affiliation with high-risk countries. If the candidate proceeds further in the recruitment process, additional mapping questions will be sent in order to assess the degree of affiliation with the high-risk country.

The affiliation assessment is based on non-discriminatory criteria and does not involve any differential treatment based on ethnicity or other protected characteristics. The assessment will focus on how closely the candidate is affiliated with the country through factors such as citizenship, family relationships, financial relationships or other affiliations. The assessment of affiliation to high-risk countries forms part of an overall assessment of the candidate’s security suitability.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
