Materials Controller

About Designer Group

Designer Group is a leading international mechanical and electrical engineering contractor, delivering high-quality projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

We are now seeking a Materials Controller to support the effective movement, storage, tracking and availability of materials across the facility.

The Role

The Materials Controller will play a key role in ensuring materials are available, accurately recorded and issued to production in line with project and manufacturing requirements.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with experience in stores, materials control, logistics, warehouse coordination or construction supply chain environments.

You will work closely with production, procurement, project teams and suppliers to make sure materials are received, checked, stored and issued efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, check and record incoming materials, equipment and deliveries.
  • Ensure all goods received match purchase orders, delivery dockets and project requirements.
  • Maintain accurate stock records using internal systems and documentation.
  • Control the issue of materials to production teams in line with work schedules.
  • Monitor stock levels and highlight shortages, delays or discrepancies.
  • Support cycle counts, stock checks and inventory control activities.
  • Organise materials within the facility to ensure safe, efficient and accessible storage.
  • Liaise with procurement, suppliers, project teams and production teams regarding material availability.
  • Identify damaged, incorrect or missing materials and escalate issues promptly.
  • Support the planning and coordination of material movements across the facility.
  • Ensure materials are clearly labelled, traceable and allocated to the correct project or work package.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards across stores and material storage areas.
  • Support compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across stores, logistics and material flow.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a materials control, stores, warehouse, logistics or supply chain role.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, M&E or prefabrication would be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in stock control and documentation.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, hands-on operational environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with production, procurement and site teams.
  • Basic IT skills and experience using stock, ERP, procurement or warehouse systems.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a stores, warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Forklift licence or manual handling certification would be an advantage, but not essential.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with M&E materials, pipework, electrical components, supports, containment, modules or prefabricated assemblies.
  • Familiarity with construction project delivery or off-site manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using stock management, barcode, ERP or materials tracking systems.
  • Ability to read basic material schedules, pick lists or project documentation.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and proactive.

You should enjoy working in a practical, fast-moving environment where accuracy matters. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of materials, keeping systems up to date and working closely with others to keep production moving.

This role would suit someone who takes pride in creating order, solving problems early and making sure the right materials are in the right place at the right time.

Benefits

This is an opportunity to join Designer Group at an exciting stage of growth as we develop a new prefabrication facility in Kells.

You will be part of a business investing in off-site manufacturing, innovation and improved project delivery across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

At Designer Group, you will work with experienced teams, support major engineering projects and have the opportunity to develop your career as the facility grows.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunity to join a growing prefabrication and manufacturing operation.
  • Long-term career development within an international engineering business.
  • Exposure to major M&E projects across multiple sectors.
  • Supportive team environment with strong operational and project delivery expertise.

Apply

If you have experience in materials control, stores, logistics or warehouse coordination and would like to be part of a growing prefabrication facility, we would be interested in hearing from you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
