The posting

HSI is seeking a flexible, organized, and customer-focused Onsite Inventory Technician to support chemical inventory projects at customer locations throughout the United States and Canada.

This casual position combines frequent travel and hands-on inventory work at customer sites with remote data entry and operational support between assignments. You'll interact directly with customers and represent HSI onsite, so professionalism, communication, attention to detail, and reliability are essential.

Chemical-industry experience is not required. HSI will provide training on our processes, procedures, and proprietary systems, including opportunities to work alongside an experienced technician during your initial assignments.

What to Expect

  • This is a casual position with variable hours based on customer project needs; hours are not guaranteed.
  • Travel averages approximately 75% and may be higher at times, primarily by air.
  • Candidates must live within approximately one hour of a commercial airport.
  • Assignments may range from a single day to approximately one week. We generally aim to provide about two weeks' notice, although shorter notice may occasionally be necessary.
  • Project work generally takes place Monday through Friday. Occasional Sunday travel may be required for a Monday project start.
  • Required business travel time is paid.
  • Technicians arrange their own flights, hotels, and rental cars. A company credit card is provided for eligible business travel expenses.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer locations to conduct thorough and accurate physical chemical inventories.
  • Identify and document products and materials located at customer sites while following established HSI processes and project instructions.
  • Use HSI's proprietary software to enter information and support chemical identification and recordkeeping.
  • Communicate professionally and confidently with customers and internal team members, providing a high level of customer service.
  • Follow customer-site policies, procedures, and safety requirements while completing inventory work.
  • Work independently on assignments as well as alongside other technicians when projects require a team.
  • Coordinate your business travel, including flights, hotels, and rental cars, and maintain required travel and expense documentation.
  • Complete accurate data entry and other operational support work remotely between field assignments based on team needs.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and provide appropriate progress updates.
  • Apply training, coaching, and feedback to continually improve accuracy and execution.
  • Support quality initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and other chemical operations activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of customer service experience, with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and confidently with customers.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, including the ability to complete accurate data entry.
  • Ability to follow established processes, procedures, and project instructions accurately.
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes and apply coaching and feedback.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with different team members and customers.
  • Comfortable working in a computer-based environment and transitioning between remote work and hands-on work at customer sites.
  • Schedule flexibility to support variable customer project needs, including occasional short-notice and weekend travel.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 75% of the time and potentially more based on customer needs, primarily by air.
  • Residence within approximately one hour of a commercial airport.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to independently rent and operate a vehicle for business travel in accordance with applicable rental-car requirements.
  • Valid U.S. passport or able to obtain one upon hire.
  • Ability to meet applicable drug-testing requirements in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with data entry and Microsoft Excel or similar applications.
  • Experience conducting physical inventories in a laboratory, industrial, chemical storage, or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Hazard Communication requirements and Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS).

Benefits

This is a casual position and is not eligible for HSI's employee benefits program. Required business travel time is paid, and eligible business travel expenses are covered by HSI.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
