About Future of Cancer Care Today

Future of Cancer Care Today (FCCT) helps cancer patients and families navigate the rapidly expanding landscape of cutting-edge treatment — genomic sequencing, combination therapies, personalised medicine. We provide concierge-style navigation, supplier intelligence, and treatment-ladder guidance to a small number of patients and families at a time. We are not a medical provider; care decisions stay between patients and their doctors. The premise is simple: helping today's patients access the best of what's possible generates the learning that benefits everyone who comes after.

FCCT is incubated by the Sijbrandij Foundation, founded by Sid Sijbrandij (founder of GitLab). The Foundation backs a small portfolio of mission-driven initiatives in healthcare and beyond, built for durable infrastructure rather than one-off philanthropy.

About the role

The Patient Connection/Navigation Manager is FCCT's most senior in-person leader on Grand Bahama. It's a working leadership role: you'll lead the Patient Navigation Associates team while carrying your own patient caseload — translating clinical and research material for families, and setting the operational standard for how FCCT shows up for the people it serves.

Leadership here grows out of the work, not above it. Your first responsibility is becoming proficient in the caseload work itself: FCCT's three-pillar framework (creative physician, comprehensive diagnostics, therapeutics in parallel), the 24-hour follow-up standard, rigorous case documentation, and honest scientific translation for families under pressure. You'll go through the same foundational curriculum the Associates do, and your first three months will be predominantly about becoming fluent in FCCT's science, rhythm and emotional register — before formal leadership responsibility ramps up.

You'll report to Bayli DiVita Dean, FCCT's Director of Patient Navigation, who remains your escalation point for complex clinical questions and partners with you on hiring, performance and how the function evolves. Your job is day-to-day leadership on the ground in Freeport: setting the tone, coordinating the team, coaching Associates as they build their own caseloads, and representing FCCT locally

What you'll do

Building fluency - roughly your first three months

  • Complete FCCT's foundational curriculum — video content, playbook reading, case-study review, case-work observation
  • Shadow Bayli, Poornima and senior team members on intake calls, family briefings and case reviews
  • Learn the case-management workflow — Airtable, the FCCT supplier reference, documentation standards
  • Take live calls with observation, followed by structured post-call review
  • Build relationships with the Associates as a colleague first, and learn what's working and what needs building

Running your caseload and leading the team

  • Own a caseload of families across different stages of their cancer journeys — the same substantive work the Associates do
  • Lead the Freeport-based Associates day to day — case reviews, learning sessions, one-to-ones
  • Coach Associates through training and beyond
  • Hold the team to FCCT's standards — 24-hour family response, 24-hour case documentation, monthly playbook and supplier contributions
  • Escalate complex clinical questions through FCCT's protocol; handle operational escalations directly
  • Partner with Bayli on hiring, performance, and how the function evolves
  • Anchor FCCT's physical presence in Freeport and represent FCCT locally with clinicians and referral partners

Requirements

Who we're looking for

  • An experienced formal manager. You have direct, formal experience managing people — hiring, performance conversations, coaching, accountability for a team's development. This is genuinely not a first management role: nursing managers, clinical team leads, research group heads and programme managers with real direct reports would all fit. Mentoring or informal leadership isn't the same thing.
  • Scientifically literate. A background in life sciences, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, bioinformatics or similar. You're comfortable — or quickly becoming comfortable — reading a molecular tumour report, a trial protocol, a scientific paper.
  • A research-qualified scientific background. A completed Master's degree or higher in a biological or chemical science, together with genuine hands-on research experience — a thesis, a publication, or a research-focused practicum or internship. This is required in addition to the scientific/clinical foundation above, not instead of it: a Bachelor's-only degree does not meet this bar, however strong your clinical or management background is otherwise.
  • Emotionally steady. You can hold hard conversations without deflecting into false reassurance, sit with silence when a family is composing themselves, absorb difficult news and stay present for the next call — and hold your team through the same.
  • A strong writer. Much of FCCT's value is delivered in writing — follow-ups, case summaries, research notes, question banks. That clarity needs to show up in your own work and in what you expect from your team.
  • Curious and calibrated. Oncology moves fast; you keep learning because the work demands it, and you know how to bring your team along.
  • Comfortable working within limits. FCCT is not a medical provider, and you hold that boundary warmly — even when families are pushing for answers only a clinician can give — and help your team hold it too.
  • A builder's instinct. FCCT is small, and a lot of what makes the work good hasn't been fully codified yet. You'll help build the way of working, not just deliver it.
  • Rooted in Freeport. This role is in-person, full-time, in Freeport. Bahamian nationals are preferred, particularly those already resident on Grand Bahama or committed to being so from day one. Exceptional candidates from elsewhere can be considered with work-permit sponsorship and relocation support — but this role needs a durable presence, not a provisional one.

Where this role isn't the right fit

  • If you're stepping into your first formal management role - FCCT needs someone who brings that experience on day one, not builds it here.
  • If you want a purely managerial role without individual caseload work - you'll carry your own families throughout, especially early on.
  • If you don't have a completed Master's degree or higher in a biological or chemical science, together with genuine research experience behind it — this now applies regardless of clinical seniority or management experience elsewhere
  • If your background is public health, health-systems reform or health policy - this is individual-patient work, not systems-level work.
  • If you're looking for a clinical practice role - FCCT doesn't diagnose, prescribe or make treatment decisions.
  • If the appeal is mainly the Bahamas as a place to live, rather than the mission and the work itself - it won't sustain you here.

Nice to have

  • Oncology or cancer-adjacent experience - clinical practice, research, patient navigation, or oncology clinical trials; familiarity with precision-oncology concepts is a real plus
  • Small-team or startup experience - helping shape how a team works, not just operating inside an existing structure
  • A track record as a builder - a process, methodology, programme or piece of infrastructure you built from nothing
  • Published research or comparable intellectual output
  • A second language - Spanish, French, Italian or German particularly useful given FCCT's international patient base

Benefits

  • Base salary US$80,000–95,000, depending on experience - tax-free under Bahamian law
  • Comprehensive private health insurance for you and your immediate family
  • Employer contribution to a supplementary pension plan
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Statutory Bahamian leave, scaling with tenure
  • Relocation support for candidates moving to Freeport

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
