The posting

Daystar Power Group is seeking to engage a highly competent and experienced Project Engineer to serve as the Commissioning and Integration Engineer within the Project Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commissioning, configuration, programming, testing, integration, optimization and technical support of control and monitoring systems deployed across Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), diesel/gas generator and hybrid power projects.

The role will serve as a technical specialist for SCADA, Power Plant Controller (PPC), Energy Management System (EMS), industrial communication networks, plant controllers, inverter controls, BESS interfaces and system integration.

The engineer will support the design and development of system operational philosophy, control sequences, equipment staging logic, protection/interlocking philosophy and energy management strategies and translate these requirements into practical EMS/PPC/SCADA functionality.

The engineer will work across the complete commissioning lifecycle, from review of control philosophy and communication architecture through hardware configuration, software setup, functional testing, system integration, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), performance optimization and final handover.

A key responsibility will be ensuring that individual equipment and subsystems operate as one coordinated power plant, particularly where PV, BESS, generators, grid supply and client loads must be managed dynamically. We are seeking a hardworking, motivated, and well-organized individual with a focus on continuous improvement to exceed expectations.

  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks and protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, RS485, Ethernet, TCP/IP, CAN/CANbus, MQTT/API interface etc.
  • Perform or supervise configuration and commissioning of solar and battery inverters from OEMs including but not limited to Sungrow, SMA, Huawei, Fronius, Victron Energy and other approved OEMs, with commissioning scope including but not limited to firmware update, initial inverter configuration, communication setup, network parameter configuration, grid-code/settings, active/reactive power control, ramp-rate configuration, frequency response settings, export limitation, inverter monitoring.
  • Configure, program and commission hybrid power controllers including systems Elum Energy, SMA, Encombi, DEIF, Victron GX, inverter-based controller, PLC-based plant control system and other OEM as need arises.
  • Perform or support commissioning and integration of BESS, including interfaces between LC, PCS, EMS, PPC, SCADA, protection system, metering system, generator controllers, PV controllers and client control system.
  • Develop, test and optimize BESS operating strategies including VSG, off-grid, on-grid, island operation, PV shifting, PV smoothing, peak shaving, generator support & optimisation, load/bus following etc.
  • Commissioning of hybrid power plant involving solar PV, BESS and diesel/gas generators by developing appropriate control hierarchy between the control system and implementing operating sequence governing generator start/stop, generator staging, minimum generator loading, minimum online capacity, spinning reserve, PV utilisation/curtailment, BESS charging/discharging, SOC management, load sharing etc to ensure stable plant operation under normal, transient and fault conditions.
  • Lead or support the commissioning and configuration of SCADA, EMS & PPC system incorporating data acquisition system, power/energy meter, communication gateway, weather station, protection relays, generator controllers, PV inverter controller, BESS controller and interfaces etc, ensuring that all equipment signals are correctly mapped, scaled, time-stamped and presented within the SCADA/EMS.
  • Collaborate with client to integrate solar/BESS systems with client’s existing infrastructure including existing SCADA, PLC, DCS, generator controllers, load/energy management system.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for commissioning and operational issues by applying structured troubleshooting to determine fault sources (e.g. instrumentation, SCADA, EMS/PPC, control logic, firmware, configuration, equipment, client interface etc) and prepare formal root cause analysis (RCA) for significant failure and recommend corrective and preventive action.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
