The posting

We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead structural steel and precast construction projects throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The ideal candidate has direct experience with a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty erection company and understands the coordination required across engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane operations, and field installation. Experience with precast concrete, miscellaneous metals, or ornamental iron is a plus. This role oversees projects from kickoff through final closeout, ensuring safe execution, schedule compliance, cost control, and quality performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee structural steel and precast construction projects from initial kickoff through execution, turnover, and final closeout.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, workforce forecasts, fabrication timelines, and equipment requirements.
  • Coordinate activities among superintendents, field crews, detailers, fabricators, subcontractors, suppliers, crane operators, and general contractors.
  • Review structural plans, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and related construction documents to confirm project requirements.
  • Manage coordination between engineering, detailing, fabrication, material delivery, and field erection to keep projects on schedule.
  • Track budgets, committed costs, labor productivity, financial forecasts, billing, change orders, and project profitability.
  • Oversee RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, payment applications, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate fabrication timelines, material releases, transportation arrangements, delivery sequencing, crane requirements, and jobsite logistics.
  • Ensure drawings, materials, equipment, and labor resources are available when needed to support field installation.
  • Identify and resolve detailing discrepancies, fabrication challenges, delivery delays, scheduling conflicts, and coordination issues before they affect project performance.
  • Plan erection sequences with field leadership, crane operators, general contractors, and other trades to support safe and efficient installation.
  • Lead project meetings and communicate progress, financial updates, risks, and outstanding issues to owners, engineers, general contractors, and company leadership.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier performance and address issues affecting cost, schedule, quality, or safety.
  • Coordinate inspections, punch-list activities, warranty obligations, project turnover, and final closeout documentation.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with owners, engineers, fabricators, suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and other project partners.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of project management experience in structural steel construction.
  • Required: Direct experience managing commercial or industrial structural steel erection projects.
  • Required: Previous experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company.
  • Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, or ornamental iron is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, detailing, erection sequencing, procurement, transportation, crane operations, and jobsite logistics.
  • Ability to interpret structural plans, shop drawings, erection drawings, specifications, contracts, and other construction documents.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, cost forecasts, billing, change orders, procurement, subcontractors, and financial controls.
  • Understanding of the full structural steel workflow, including engineering, detailing, fabrication, transportation, crane coordination, and field erection.
  • Experience collaborating with general contractors, structural engineers, fabricators, erectors, and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or comparable platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate office, fabrication, and field operations simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel project risks, including fabrication lead times, material availability, delivery restrictions, crane access, and erection sequencing.
  • Preference for candidates based in or able to reliably commute to Milwaukee and the Southeastern Wisconsin area.

Note: General commercial construction project management experience without direct structural steel project experience will not meet the requirements for this role.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Opportunity to lead complex structural steel and precast construction projects.
  • Stable workload with long-term career growth opportunities.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented work environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
