The posting

QA Engineer

  • Geo: Brazil
  • Position: Independent Contractor
  • Experience: 3–5 years in software quality assurance
  • Flexible Location: Remote
  • Corporate Language: English
  • Hours: Brazil time zone

Why this role exists

Scientists spend a staggering amount of time wrangling data instead of running experiments. We build the AI-native platform that changes that: the system of record and the intelligence layer for R&D labs formulating everything from next-gen batteries to sustainable materials to alternative proteins. Our software doesn't just store lab data, it designs experiments, recommends formulations, surfaces insights, and automates the busywork that stands between a researcher and their next discovery.

As a QA Engineer at Alchemy, you own the quality of a configurable platform that specialty chemicals companies run their R&D and manufacturing on, and you do it with AI as part of your toolkit, not as a side experiment.

That means writing and maintaining automated coverage, using AI coding assistants to generate and extend tests, and building agentic testing workflows: agents that explore the product, exercise customer configurations, and surface regressions without a human scripting every path. You will decide where an agent is trustworthy, where it is not, and what evidence is needed before a release goes out.

What you'll do

You’ll own quality across the platform, the solutions built on it, and the way we test:

  • AI-assisted and agentic testing. Use AI coding assistants to write, extend, and maintain automated tests, and review what they produce with a sceptical eye. Design agentic test workflows that explore the platform and customer configurations on their own, then triage what they surface. Turn recurring manual checks into automation, starting with the regression suites that cost the team the most time.
  • Standards for AI in testing. Judge where an AI-generated result can be trusted and where a human has to verify, and make that reasoning visible to the team. Help set the standards for how Alchemy uses AI in testing: what gets automated, what evidence a release needs, how agent output is reviewed.
  • Platform quality, with Engineering and DevOps. Create and execute test plans for new features and bug fixes, and run regression testing across releases. Extend automated coverage in CI/CD so defects are caught before release rather than after. Monitor and report on application performance, and investigate anomalies using logs, database data, and your own scripts.
  • Customer solutions, with Customer Success. Understand how customer configurations are built on the platform, and test the applications delivered on top of them. Create and execute test plans for customer-specific solutions.
  • How the platform is actually used, with Product. Analyze and report on customer usage and engagement, and on feature adoption by end users. Feed those insights back into where testing effort belongs: the paths customers use most deserve the deepest coverage.
  • The process itself. Drive continual improvement of quality control procedures so they can be replicated across teams and customers.

Your impact

You’ll shape how Alchemy tests with AI: what gets automated, what evidence a release needs, and how agent output is reviewed. Your work protects the platform that specialty chemicals companies run their R&D and manufacturing on, and the solutions we build for customers on top of it.

We are looking for critical thinkers who can solve real customer problems and experiment with new ideas alongside cross-functional teammates. If you enjoy an energetic, collaborative environment at a fast-growing tech company and you are genuinely curious about where testing goes next, we'd love to hear from you.

Requirements

Who you are

Must have

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in software quality assurance, covering test design and execution, systems analysis, and modern development tooling.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation: you have built and maintained automated suites, not only executed manual test plans.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in your work (coding assistants, LLM-based test generation, or agentic workflows), and a clear view of where they help and where they mislead.
  • Strong technical background: you write scripts and build small tools to move faster, and you are comfortable reading logs and querying a database to investigate a reported problem.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins) and how automated tests fit into them.
  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related subject, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Domain background in chemistry, materials science, or manufacturing software.
  • Excellent English, written and spoken.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or operating agentic testing systems, or evaluating non-deterministic output.
  • Experience working with laboratory software such as ELN, LIMS and SDMS.
  • Performance or load testing experience.
  • Experience with configurable or multi-tenant enterprise platforms, where every customer's setup differs.

How you work

  • Creativity and a self-starting willingness to explore new technologies, including the ones that change how your own job works.
  • Judgment about when to trust a tool and when to verify it yourself.
  • Tenacity, technical expertise, and the ability to contribute quickly.
  • Pride in your work, through attention to detail and ownership of outcomes.
  • Passion for code quality and great design.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
