About CORTO

We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.

Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best—providing expert legal counsel.

We’re rapidly scaling from 80 to 250+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 75% of the team are developers and engineers. Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you’ll join a fast-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you’re smart, caring, and ambitious, you’ll be in great company.

Meet the Quality Engineering team

You'll join the Quality Engineering function within our Accounting group, focused on ensuring the quality and reliability of CORTO's next generation of accounting products for legal professionals. This team supports CORTO's brand-new accounting solutions and accounting functionality.

The environment is fast-moving and product-heavy, with multiple new products and features being built from the ground up. You'll work across greenfield initiatives and evolving platforms, contributing to automation, improving quality practices and helping the team scale quality as the product portfolio grows.

What you’ll do

As a Quality Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in ensuring the quality of CORTO's accounting and AI-driven products. You'll work closely with Senior Quality Engineers, developers, Product Managers and DevOps engineers to test new products and features, contribute to automation, identify quality risks and ensure releases are reliable. You'll be encouraged to take ownership of your work while continuing to develop your technical skills across automation, APIs, web applications, CI/CD and AI-enabled products.

To make this happen you will

  • Design, develop, execute and maintain automated tests across web and API applications.
  • Contribute to existing test automation frameworks using languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript and Python.
  • Perform functional, regression, smoke and exploratory testing across new and existing products and features.
  • Create clear and maintainable automated tests that follow established QE standards and patterns.
  • Test backend services and APIs, including validating requests, responses, integrations and data.
  • Work closely with developers to investigate defects, understand technical changes and identify potential quality risks.
  • Participate in requirements refinement and technical discussions to help identify test scenarios and quality risks early.
  • Contribute automated tests to CI/CD pipelines and help investigate failures within automated test runs.
  • Participate in code reviews and use feedback from Senior QEs and developers to continuously improve test code.
  • Clearly document defects, test coverage, risks and testing outcomes.
  • Contribute to improving QE processes, automation coverage and testing practices across the team.
  • Support the testing of AI-enabled features using established tools and approaches.
  • Share knowledge with other engineers and actively participate in team learning and collaboration.

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on experience in software testing across web applications and APIs.
  • Practical experience creating and maintaining automated tests.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language, ideally TypeScript, JavaScript or Python.
  • Experience with modern web or API automation tools and frameworks.
  • Understanding of API testing, including HTTP requests, responses, status codes and common API behaviours.
  • Experience performing functional, regression, smoke and exploratory testing.
  • A good understanding of software testing principles, test design and defect management.
  • Experience using version control such as Git and working within modern software development workflows.
  • Some experience working with CI/CD pipelines and understanding how automated tests fit into the development and release process.
  • Ability to investigate failures and defects and work with developers to determine likely causes.
  • Ability to understand product requirements and translate them into appropriate test scenarios.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on defined pieces of work while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • A proactive approach to learning and improving your technical skills.
  • A genuine interest in product quality and quality engineering.

Even better if you have

  • Experience testing AI-enabled or AI-driven applications.
  • Experience using Playwright or similar modern web automation technologies.
  • Experience with automated API testing.
  • Exposure to non-functional testing such as performance, load or reliability testing.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Experience working with data-heavy, financial or accounting applications.
  • An interest in using AI tools to improve software testing.

You are the type of person who

  • Takes ownership of your work and follows tasks through to completion.
  • Is curious and enjoys understanding how products work, not just whether a test passes or fails.
  • Communicates clearly with developers, QEs and other members of the product team.
  • Is comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions when something does not look right.
  • Enjoys investigating problems and finding their underlying cause.
  • Cares about writing reliable, maintainable automated tests.
  • Is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where requirements and priorities may evolve.
  • Is open to feedback and actively looks for opportunities to improve.
  • Enjoys sharing knowledge and collaborating with other members of the team.
  • Has a strong interest in developing further as a Quality Engineer.

CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
