Job Description
The Turbine & Precision Equipment Rigger is responsible for executing highly critical, heavy, and precision lifting operations during power plant turbine outages and industrial maintenance shutdowns. This role demands exceptional technical expertise to safely handle multi-million dollar rotating equipment, gas/steam turbine components, and delicate machinery within tightly restricted spaces. The successful candidate must strictly adhere to engineered lifting plans, maintain zero-compromise safety standards, and display flawless precision under fast-paced outage timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Rigging Execution: Safely attach, lift, guide, and position heavy turbine components and associated mechanical equipment in strict compliance with approved, engineered lifting plans.
- Pre-Lift Assessment: Thoroughly review critical technical parameters prior to every lift, including total load weight, exact center of gravity, designated lifting points, travel path clearances, and final landing arrangements.
- Equipment Management: Select, calculate, and inspect specialized rigging hardware such as synthetic/wire-rope slings, shackles, spreader beams, chain blocks, and specialized lifting accessories.
- Compliance & Safety Verification: Audit all lifting tackle before use to verify valid identification tags, current inspection status, and Working Load Limits (WLL).
- Precision Maneuvering: Expertly guide immense structural loads through highly restricted areas and congested plant environments utilizing controlled mechanical methods and precise signaling.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience as an industrial rigger, with a strong preference for candidates who have completed major turbine outages, power plant shutdowns, or heavy mechanical maintenance.
- Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of rigging mathematics, center-of-gravity calculations, crane signals, and rigging hardware capacities.
- Certifications: Valid third-party rigging certifications (such as TUV, Bureau Veritas, Aramco, or equivalents) are highly preferred.
- Physical Capability: Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and handle the physical demands of 12-hour shifts typical during emergency or scheduled outages.
- Soft Skills: Strong teamwork orientation, high attention to detail, and a strict commitment to safety protocols.
