About the Role
Remotebase places senior engineers with fast-growing product companies around the world. We’re building a pool of experienced Rust Developers for Part-time Engagements with our clients. You’ll build and maintain high-performance, reliable backend and systems software. Projects range from backend services and APIs to infrastructure tooling, data pipelines and performance-critical components.
This role suits engineers who already write production Rust and want flexible, meaningful work alongside their other commitments.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build and maintain production-grade services and libraries in Rust
- Write safe, idiomatic and well-tested code, with careful attention to performance and memory use
- Build async services with Tokio and frameworks such as Axum, Actix-web or Tonic (gRPC)
- Profile and optimize hot paths, and find and fix concurrency, latency and memory issues
- Integrate with databases, message queues and cloud infrastructure
- Review code, guide less-experienced engineers and contribute to technical design decisions
- Work asynchronously with distributed teams, with clear written communication
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years of production Rust
- A deep understanding of ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits and generics
- Strong hands-on experience with async Rust (Tokio, futures, Send/Sync bounds)
- Experience building and running backend services or systems software in production
- Solid grasp of concurrency, memory management and performance profiling
- Comfortable with testing in Rust (unit, integration, property-based) and with CI/CD
- Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases (Postgres, Redis and so on) through crates such as sqlx, Diesel or SeaORM
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux and at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP or Azure)
- Strong written and spoken English
- Reliable availability of 20 hours/week, with 4 hours of overlap with US timezone.
Nice to Have
- Unsafe Rust, FFI (C/C++ or Python via PyO3) or WebAssembly
- Embedded, networking, blockchain or distributed-systems experience
- Open-source contributions to the Rust ecosystem
- Experience with observability tools (tracing, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus)
- Background in C++ or Go
Benefits
In addition to a market competitive compensation, we have a reward philosophy that expand beyond this.
- Fully remote with office optional. You decide when you would like to work from home and when from the office.
- Flexible timings. You decide your work scheduled.
- Market competitive compensation (in $$).
- Insane learning and growth
