Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Lead the technical review of electrical drawings, specifications and schedules to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable standards and industry guidance.
- Review electrical designs from a buildability, compliance, coordination and delivery perspective, identifying risks, gaps or alternative technical solutions where required.
- Develop engineering alternative solutions, including supporting calculations, technical notes and sketches for internal review and client approval.
- Act as a key technical point of contact for electrical engineering matters across the project.
- Review coordinated construction drawings and technical documentation, ensuring alignment between design intent, site requirements and installation methodology.
- Prepare, review and manage RFIs and technical queries for issue to the client, design team or consultants.
- Undertake detailed technical reviews of specialist supplier and subcontractor packages to ensure compliance with project specifications, employer requirements and applicable standards.
- Prepare and monitor technical submittals, ensuring approvals are progressed in line with the project programme.
- Prepare and monitor procurement schedules in conjunction with the procurement team, ensuring technical requirements, lead times and approvals are properly coordinated.
- Use engineering software tools such as Dialux, Relux, Amtech ProDesign, Navisworks or similar packages to support design review, technical coordination and engineering solutions.
- Review BCAR preliminary inspection plans and coordinate electrical inspection requirements with the quality team.
- Monitor LEED and BREEAM requirements and ensure relevant technical submittals and documentation are progressed where applicable.
- Oversee the preparation of operation and maintenance manuals and ensure technical handover documentation is accurate and complete.
- Support client demonstrations, technical inspections and project handover activities.
- Review, support and provide technical attendance during commissioning, ensuring issues are closed out and systems are delivered in line with project requirements.
- Work closely with construction, quality, commissioning and client teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching and support to junior engineers and wider project team members where required.
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, quality teams and client representatives throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support site progress meetings and contribute to project planning, technical problem-solving and risk mitigation activities.
Requirements
- Degree Level Qualification (Level 7 or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience in electrical project engineering, building services engineering, electrical construction, power generation projects, or a similar role.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical building services systems from a design, construction, commissioning and handover perspective.
- Proven ability to review electrical designs, identify technical and buildability issues, and coordinate practical solutions with design teams, project teams, subcontractors and clients.
- Good working knowledge of current Irish electrical regulations, fire alarm standards, emergency lighting standards and relevant building services requirements.
- Experience supporting or leading electrical packages on power generation, commercial, industrial, data centre, healthcare, pharmaceutical, residential or other large-scale MEP projects.
- Previous experience working on power generation projects is essential.
- Ability to manage technical queries, submittals, RFIs, design coordination, inspections, commissioning support and project documentation.
- Capable of working independently, taking ownership of technical issues and supporting junior engineers where required.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives.
- Knowledge of engineering software packages such as Dialux, Relux, Amtech, Navisworks, AutoCAD or BIM-related tools is desirable.
- Experience working within live construction environments and supporting multidisciplinary project teams on site.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to project deadlines.
- This is a full-time site-based role. Candidates must be willing to work on site for the duration of the project and collaborate closely with construction, commissioning, quality and client teams.
