Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Salary: To be determined

Working Hours & Conditions: Aligned with AU business hours; full-time (remote)

Holidays: Aligned with AU holidays

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Join a fast-growing engineering and manufacturing firm dedicated to delivering practical, high-impact mechanical solutions for complex industrial challenges. This role connects deep mechanical design expertise with complete project ownership, taking custom engineering projects from early concept and customer discovery through to workshop fabrication and final delivery. As a key technical leader in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, you will turn ambiguous requirements into robust, manufacturable designs that drive client success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead End-to-End Project Lifecycles: Own projects from early customer discussions, scoping, and requirements capture through design reviews, manufacturing support, verification, and final handover.
  • Drive Mechanical & CAD Design: Develop creative mechanical solutions utilizing 3D SolidWorks, focusing on complex sheet metal, weldments, custom properties, dynamic templates, and design-for-manufacture/assembly (DFM/DFA) principles.
  • Manage Project Governance: Maintain rigorous project governance by tracking action registers, risk and decision logs, schedules, customer updates, technical reports, and formal design approvals.
  • Reconcile Technical & Legacy Data: Locate and consolidate scattered project data across platforms, research missing evidence, and update legacy documentation to ensure full technical traceability.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with external clients, sales teams, engineering peers, workshop personnel, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution and resolve technical roadblocks.
  • Identify Continuous Improvements: Independently evaluate existing products and processes to uncover technically sound opportunities for design optimization and delivery enhancement.
  • Support Broader Business Needs: Adapt flexibly to shifting small-business priorities by contributing practical support outside traditional discipline boundaries when required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field, alongside senior-level experience leading mechanical design and manufacturing projects.
  • CAD Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of 3D SolidWorks with a strong portfolio showcasing complex problem-solving, advanced sheet metal/weldment design, dynamic templates, and elegant CAD architecture.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong practical knowledge of metal fabrication, material properties, piping/hydraulic fittings, hydraulic systems, sheet metal, and weldments.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills for customer engagement, technical reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Self-Direction & Systems Approach: Proven ability to apply structured, systems-oriented engineering methodologies to progress work independently while knowing when to seek peer review.

PREFERRED SKILLS (NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT REQUIRED):

  • Systems & Safety Engineering: Formal exposure to systems engineering principles or functional safety standards.
  • Software Tools: Hands-on experience with project management and ERP/business tools such as Monday.com, Microsoft Project, MYOB Acumatica, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Design Feedback & Adaptability: Confidence to challenge technical assumptions respectfully, openness to constructive peer review, and a willingness to "wear many hats" in a small, agile business environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
