At Peter Lucas we offer a variety of work, professional development, and learning opportunities that come from working on diverse projects in the mining, energy, and heavy industrial sectors. Our dynamic environment, filled with high-achieving professionals, enables our staff to take on incredible opportunities, gain mentorship from a diverse group of colleagues, and succeed in their careers.

This is a senior execution-focused position responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary project through construction, commissioning, operational handover, and closeout. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, construction contractors, project controls, operations, maintenance, and other project stakeholders.

The position will involve a combination of work from Saskatoon and travel to a remote northern Saskatchewan site. Candidates should be based in or around Saskatoon and comfortable with regular fly-in/fly-out site assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project execution across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Manage project budget, schedule, planning, safety, quality, risk, and contract performance.
  • Coordinate multiple contractors, suppliers, engineering disciplines, and site stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage construction and commissioning plans and schedules.
  • Monitor contractor progress against baseline schedules and identify mitigation strategies for schedule impacts.
  • Oversee project cost management, forecasting, change management, and progress reporting.
  • Review and manage RFIs, material requirements, contractor deliverables, and project documentation.
  • Review contractor schedules, resource plans, progress curves, and execution strategies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary construction activities involving civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Lead commissioning planning, risk reviews, system turnover, and handover to operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee punch-list completion and operational readiness activities.
  • Review contracts and change orders and support claims management when required.
  • Lead project meetings and prepare weekly and monthly project reports and presentations.
  • Maintain project risk registers and identify opportunities to reduce cost, schedule, and execution risk.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and participate in site safety reviews, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Support final project turnover, documentation, and closeout.

Work Arrangement

The successful candidate will divide their time between Saskatoon and the project site in Northern Saskatchewan. Significant site presence will be required during construction and commissioning.

The current site construction schedule is approximately two weeks in / one week out, although the schedule may change depending on project requirements.

Site accommodations and transportation from designated Saskatchewan travel hubs are provided.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior project professional who enjoys being directly involved in project execution and wants to lead a complex industrial project through construction, commissioning, and successful operational handover.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of project management experience within industrial projects.
  • Extensive experience managing construction and commissioning of industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience taking projects through execution, commissioning, handover, and closeout.
  • Strong contractor and multidisciplinary project-team management experience.

  • Strong understanding of industrial construction practices and project execution.
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Process, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and best practices applicable to mining and milling environments is considered an asset.
  • Previous mining, mineral processing, uranium, heavy industrial, oil & gas, chemical, or process plant experience is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder-management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to a remote northern Saskatchewan site.

Benefits

  • Health And Dental Benefits.
  • Pension Matching Program.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
