Senior QA Engineer

At Sangoma, we're looking for a Senior QA Engineer who is passionate about delivering high-quality software and exceptional customer experiences. In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the quality, reliability, scalability, security, and performance of our cloud communications platforms and frontend applications.

You'll work closely with Software Engineering, Product Management, DevOps, Technical Support, and fellow QA engineers throughout the software development lifecycle. As a senior member of the QA team, you'll take ownership of quality for assigned products and features, contribute to test automation and QA strategy, mentor junior team members, and help drive continuous improvements in testing practices and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and QA strategies for UCaaS, CCaaS, web, and frontend applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated tests to expand regression coverage and improve testing efficiency.
  • Execute functional, regression, integration, system, API, compatibility, performance, and end-to-end testing.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, DevOps, and Technical Support to identify, reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects and customer-reported issues.
  • Analyze application behavior, logs, network traffic, and SIP traces to identify root causes and validate fixes.
  • Test REST APIs and backend services, including validation of data, integrations, error handling, and system behavior.
  • Verify new features, enhancements, and bug fixes to ensure they meet functional, technical, usability, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release readiness activities.
  • Identify quality risks early in the development lifecycle and recommend appropriate testing strategies and mitigation plans.
  • Contribute to improving QA processes, testing methodologies, automation frameworks, documentation, and overall test coverage.
  • Mentor junior QA engineers through technical guidance, test reviews, automation support, and best-practice sharing.
  • Maintain accurate test documentation and provide clear reporting on testing progress, defects, quality metrics, risks, and release readiness.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and DevOps teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Investigate complex production and customer-reported issues and support root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • Stay current with emerging QA tools, automation technologies, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, including experience testing complex web, cloud, VoIP, or communications applications.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, SDLC, Agile/Scrum practices, and QA best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing functional, regression, integration, system, API, performance, and end-to-end testing.
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining test automation using frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar.
  • Experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and working with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with defect tracking and test management tools such as Jira, Zephyr, TestRail, or Xray.
  • Strong experience analyzing application logs, network traffic, and debugging complex software issues.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases for data validation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with performance or load testing tools such as JMeter, k6, Gatling, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience with UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, SIP, WebRTC, or other real-time communications technologies is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of software quality principles and the ability to identify quality risks throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior QA engineers and champion QA best practices.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing distributed cloud-based applications and microservices.
  • Experience with SIP signaling, RTP/media flows, WebRTC, or telecommunications protocols.
  • Experience with containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience building or enhancing automated test frameworks and reusable test infrastructure.
