Compensation Details:

  • Senior Software Engineer 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experience plus a performance-based incentive of 15%

Location:

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or any regional offices in Toronto, Mississauga, Halifax or Vancouver

Team Overview:

As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow, and succeed internationally, the Digital Platform Delivery & Architecture (DPDA) group in EDC plays a critical role in enabling leaders to leverage technologies by providing an easy-to-use, secure and fit-for-purpose digital business platform.

The Digital Platforms team within the Working Capital Solutions group is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer/Lead with specialized AI expertise to help build and evolve EDC's AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities. This role will focus on modernizing test automation, integrating AI into quality assurance practices, and improving software reliability, delivery speed, and operational performance across the SDLC. The incumbent will design and implement secure, enterprise-grade testing solutions, establish best practices for AI-assisted quality engineering, and support the adoption of emerging capabilities that enhance how software is validated, tested, monitored, and supported. As EDC's AI journey matures, the role will contribute to the evolution of increasingly intelligent and automated quality processes while ensuring strong governance, security, and human oversight. To implement strategic technology vision by building an effective platform that supports the needs of EDC now and in the future. This role is accountable for the hands-on coding, design, build, support, and operations of the DPDA group.

What this role is and is not: This is not a traditional manual testing role. Success in this position requires a blend of quality engineering expertise, test automation development, and collaboration with delivery teams to embed quality throughout the software lifecycle. Candidates looking exclusively for manual testing or test coordination responsibilities may find the role unsuitable.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, execute, and maintain comprehensive test suites, ensuring coverage of functional, integration, end-to-end, and customer-centric scenarios.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable test automation solutions using Python and Robot Framework.
  • Develop reusable automation libraries, frameworks, and testing components.
  • Automate testing across APIs, web applications, integrations, backend services, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and establish effective quality gates.
  • Define and execute automation strategies based on risk, business value, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of automation reliability, coverage, performance, and execution speed.
  • Lead quality engineering practices across an AI-enabled and Agentic SDLC.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate test design, automation development, defect analysis, and reporting.
  • Validate AI-generated test cases, automation code, and recommendations before production use.
  • Develop testing approaches for AI-powered applications, agents, and autonomous workflows.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, product teams, and business stakeholders to build quality into the SDLC from the start.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and standards for automation, quality engineering, and AI-assisted testing practices.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Test Automation, SDET, Quality Engineering, or Software Development delivering enterprise-scale solutions, including 2+ years of experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and modern AI-enabled SDLC practices.
