The Opportunity

Rystad Energy offers global and regional data, analytics and advisory services tailored specifically for in-depth analysis of the energy industry and several key sub-segments – Commodity Markets, Upstream, Downstream, Supply Chain, Renewables & Power, and Energy Transition. The high consistency of data is a result of our systematic research, which involves combining publicly available information with Rystad Energy's own professional estimates and models. At the core of everything we do is a bottom-up approach to data, gathered by our analysts from public sources including governments, company reports, investor presentations, press releases, as well as public institutions and agencies such as IEA, OPEC, EIA and USGS. Clients benefit from this approach by subscribing to our data and analytics solutions and/or by utilizing our industry experts in collaborative consulting projects.

The Role

Rystad Energy is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Lead Analyst in the oil market space to join our Commodity Markets – Oil team. This new role will be responsible for guiding a team on providing fundamental regional market analysis and will play a key part in further developing our global and regional oil market coverage.

The Analyst will be integrating detailed crude oil and products supply and demand data, tracking regional trade flows, and following key oil market geopolitical and economic developments. The Analyst will focus on the Americas region but will be a member of a global team that works collaboratively.

The Analyst should be able to adjust their regional analysis to keep pace with the rapidly changing market conditions. They should also be able to discuss potential changes in the market and the impact these will have on regional balances.

The foundation of our research products is high volume of factual data, combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools, to model physical relationships and market mechanisms governing the oil market and other global energy systems.

In this round we are looking for (1) one analyst to cover the Americas and to be located in Houston but other locations in North America will be considered recognizing that travel to the US will be required.

Role description

· Lead a team of analysts to monitor short-term crude oil and oil products market developments in the Americas and to develop ad hoc analysis and insights to keep our clients up to date on potential market impacts

· Lead the development of regional fundamental analysis, including crude oil and refined product supply, demand, trade flows, and inventories to develop a monthly base-case forecast for publishing scheduled reports

· Collaborate with the global fundamentals team and other regional teams to develop cross-regional fundamentals-based views on crude oil and oil product balances, prices, price-arbitrages, and refinery margins

· Provide leadership in the Americas region on NGL/LPG market dynamics and work collaboratively with the global NGL team to develop monthly fundamentals views

· Add insight and value to the general research, product development and client-facing activities for the Americas team

· Present our research at conferences and engage with clients in commercial-led relationships

· Engage with media through our media-relations team to broaden the Rystad Energy brand’s reach

· Generate leads for ad-hoc analysis and reports

· Mentor team members to develop their knowledge of oil markets to enable their career growth

Experience and Skills

· University degree (Master or Bachelor) within Engineering is highly valued. Another technical degree may be considered only if the candidate has direct industry experience in oil market analysis or oil commodity trading that extends beyond crude oil and into refined products

· Demonstrated knowledge of both crude oil and refined product markets including a strong understanding of crude oil qualities, supply locations, crude oil values, typical trade flows, refined product specifications, refinery operations, refinery margins, and product trade flows

· Strong quantitative skills including knowledge of Python, SQL, and advanced Excel

· Strong technical writing skills and excellent verbal communication skills (English)

· Proactive, independent, open-minded, creative, collaborative, and able to lead a diverse team effectively

· Willing to travel primarily within region but globally from time to time. Travel within region may be one full week per month

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
