Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support an enterprise database environment for a federal customer.

The Senior SQL DBA will administer, maintain, secure, optimize, and support highly available SQL and Oracle database environments. This position includes database configuration, backup and recovery, patching, performance tuning, High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), monitoring, automation, security, and incident response.

The ideal candidate has deep SQL Server, SQL Clustering, and SQL scripting expertise combined with experience across Oracle and other enterprise database technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize enterprise SQL and Oracle databases.
  • Manage database provisioning, installations, upgrades, patching, and server maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain backup, restore, High Availability (HA), and Disaster Recovery (DR) processes.
  • Perform advanced database, query, optimizer, and storage performance tuning.
  • Establish and support monitoring, alerting, security, compliance, and database configuration standards.
  • Develop SQL scripts and automation to improve database operations.
  • Troubleshoot complex database incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and support incident prevention.
  • Collaborate across infrastructure, application, security, and operations teams and communicate effectively with staff and management.
  • Support occasional scheduled after-hours patching, reboots, and maintenance.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in database administration and related database disciplines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL, SQL Server, SQL Clustering, and SQL Scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience with all of the following: Oracle Database, Oracle Grid, Oracle RMAN, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and Microsoft Access.
  • Experience creating and managing standalone SQL and Oracle databases.
  • Experience identifying and triaging database and server issues.
  • Experience with server maintenance, software installations, upgrades, and patching.
  • Experience with High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and restore processes.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, monitoring, security, compliance, automation, and incident management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across technical teams.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Must reside in and perform all work from within the United States.
  • Must be willing to complete federal background/suitability screening and fingerprinting if required.
  • Must be available for 8 working hours per day within 7:30 AM–6:00 PM ET.
  • Must be able to support occasional scheduled after-hours maintenance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional SQL Server/database certification.
  • Current or prior federal background investigation or Public Trust.
  • Federal government or federal contracting experience.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Idera, SolarWinds, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Datadog, and/or Dynatrace.
  • Experience supporting cloud database environments.

Benefits

Compensation

$150,000–$180,000 per year as a W2, negotiable for the right candidate.

$80/hr.–$100/hr. as a 1099
