We are seeking an experienced Senior Tekla Detailer to lead structural steel modeling and detailing from design development through fabrication and field erection. The ideal candidate has advanced Tekla Structures expertise, extensive structural steel fabrication experience, and the ability to establish detailing standards, improve workflows, and mentor other detailers.
This role combines hands-on technical work with quality control and team leadership. The successful candidate will ensure models and drawings are accurate, constructible, fabrication-ready, and aligned with project specifications, shop requirements, and erection conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural steel modeling and detailing using Tekla Structures from design through fabrication and erection.
- Develop accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models, shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of materials, and related documentation.
- Review structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, engineering documents, and contracts to establish detailing requirements.
- Identify design conflicts, missing information, constructability issues, and potential fabrication or erection challenges.
- Develop and maintain Tekla standards, templates, custom components, workflows, and detailing procedures.
- Review models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, dimensional consistency, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with structural engineers, fabricators, production teams, project managers, general contractors, and field personnel to resolve technical issues.
- Support complex connection detailing, modeling challenges, revisions, and field-related requirements.
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate detailers.
- Establish and maintain quality-control procedures to ensure consistent detailing standards across projects.
- Ensure models and drawings reflect fabrication capabilities, shop requirements, erection sequencing, and field conditions.
- Manage multiple projects and detailing priorities while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve modeling efficiency, drawing quality, standardization, and detailing workflows.
- Coordinate the transition from engineering and modeling through fabrication, delivery, and field erection.
Requirements
- 8+ years of structural steel detailing experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Tekla Structures required.
- Direct experience in a structural steel fabrication environment required.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, connection detailing, shop drawings, material requirements, and erection sequencing.
- Proven experience producing fabrication-ready Tekla models and drawings.
- Experience developing or improving Tekla standards, templates, custom components, workflows, or detailing procedures.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, training, or providing technical direction to structural steel detailers.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, engineering documents, and fabrication requirements.
- Strong knowledge of steel connections, constructability, tolerances, fabrication processes, and erection requirements.
- Experience coordinating with engineering, fabrication, production, project management, and field teams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, fabrication-ready documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding production schedules.
