The posting

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tekla Detailer to lead structural steel modeling and detailing from design through fabrication and field erection.

This role combines advanced Tekla Structures expertise with technical leadership. The Senior Detailer will oversee model and drawing quality, maintain detailing standards, improve workflows, and provide guidance and mentorship to other detailers.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in a structural steel fabrication environment and understands the full detailing process, from 3D modeling and connection detailing through shop drawing production, fabrication, and erection.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural steel modeling and detailing using Tekla Structures from design through fabrication and erection.
  • Develop accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models, shop drawings, erection drawings, and related detailing documentation.
  • Review structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, and engineering documents to identify detailing requirements and potential conflicts.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve Tekla standards, templates, workflows, and detailing procedures.
  • Review models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineers, fabricators, production teams, project managers, and field personnel to resolve technical and detailing issues.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and mentorship to structural steel detailers.
  • Support the team in resolving complex connection, modeling, and fabrication challenges.
  • Ensure detailing work aligns with fabrication capabilities, erection requirements, and project schedules.
  • Manage multiple projects, priorities, and production deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities to improve detailing efficiency, consistency, and overall workflow.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the relationship between 3D modeling, fabrication, and field erection.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of structural steel detailing experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures is required.
  • Structural steel fabrication experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, connection detailing, shop drawing production, and erection sequencing.
  • Proven experience developing or improving Tekla standards, templates, workflows, or detailing procedures.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, training, or supervising structural steel detailers.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, and engineering documents.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering, fabrication, production, and project management teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, fabrication-ready documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet production deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of constructability and the transition from design and modeling to fabrication and field erection.
