ABOUT RIVER CLEANUP

River Cleanup is a global nonprofit working toward a clear goal: plastic-free rivers. We bring communities together to clean rivers today and keep them clean for the future. Through cleanups, prevention, data and community-led solutions, we take action on plastic pollution while building long-term solutions that stop waste before it reaches our rivers. Our global community has already mobilized 400000 people across more than 100 countries, and we're continuing to grow.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Social Media & Community Coordinator to bring River Cleanup's stories, campaigns and impact to life across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. This is a hands-on role covering the full day-to-day social media cycle: planning, creating, publishing, engaging, promoting and reporting. You'll write copy, create visual content, shoot and edit short-form video, manage our online community and execute paid social campaigns. You'll work within the social media and campaign strategies set by the Director of Digital Marketing & Communications while bringing your own creativity, ideas and understanding of what works on social. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, plans ahead and keeps things moving.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Create & manage content

  • Manage River Cleanup's day-to-day presence across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Support the growth of River Cleanup's social media channels by creating engaging content, actively engaging our audiences and identifying opportunities to extend our reach.
  • Maintain a content calendar planned at least one month ahead and aligned with our campaigns and communications priorities.
  • Coordinate social content with wider communications activity, including campaigns, website content, email and other marketing channels.
  • Write engaging social copy adapted to different platforms and audiences.
  • Create on-brand visual content using Canva.
  • Shoot and edit engaging short-form video for Reels, TikTok and other social formats.
  • Brief and coordinate external agencies, freelancers and content creators to support content production and campaign delivery, helping build a trusted network of external creative partners around the core Communications team.
  • Schedule and publish content, ensuring it is accurate, timely and consistent with the River Cleanup brand.
  • Identify relevant stories, trends and content opportunities.
  • Work with colleagues and River Cleanup teams around the world to source stories, images, video and information.
  • Capture and publish content from key River Cleanup campaigns, cleanups and events when needed.

Engage our community

  • Manage comments, direct messages and community emails, providing timely and appropriate responses.
  • Actively engage with followers and relevant online communities.
  • Build relationships with creators and influencers who can help extend River Cleanup's reach.
  • Surface recurring questions, feedback and relevant conversations from our community to the wider team.

Manage paid social

  • Set up and manage paid campaigns across Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok based on established campaign strategies, audiences, budgets and objectives.
  • Monitor and optimize campaigns throughout their lifecycle.
  • Track spend and performance and flag issues when campaigns are not on target.
  • Report on paid campaign results.

Measure performance

  • Monitor organic and paid social performance across channels.
  • Produce regular reporting against agreed KPIs.
  • Identify meaningful trends, opportunities and areas requiring attention.
  • Use performance data to make day-to-day content execution stronger.

Requirements

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • +3 years of professional experience in social media, digital communications, content creation or a related role.
  • Experience managing social channels for an organization, brand or agency.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Professional proficiency in either Dutch or French; proficiency in both is strongly preferred.
  • Strong social media copywriting skills.
  • Experience independently shooting and editing short-form social video.
  • Demonstrable Canva skills and a good eye for engaging visual content.
  • Hands-on experience setting up, managing, optimizing and reporting on paid social campaigns.
  • A strong understanding of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube and how content works differently across them.
  • Experience with Meta Business Suite and Meta Ads Manager, as well as TikTok Ads Manager.
  • Familiarity with tools such as HubSpot, GA4 and social scheduling or reporting platforms is an advantage.

HOW YOU WORK

  • You're highly organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • You plan ahead rather than relying on last-minute execution.
  • You take initiative, spot opportunities and move work forward without waiting for detailed instructions.
  • You take ownership of your work and follow through.
  • You're comfortable receiving constructive feedback and applying it to your work.
  • You have strong attention to detail and flag potential issues early.
  • You're curious about social media and keep up with changing formats, trends and platform behavior.
  • You enjoy working with people from different teams, countries and backgrounds.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Our social channels are active, engaging and consistently on-brand. Content is planned ahead and campaigns go live accurately and on time. Our community receives timely responses, and performance is regularly tracked and reported. You know what's coming next and are prepared for it. You flag problems early, act on strong content opportunities and use feedback to continuously improve your work.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
