The posting

Procon is a top-ranked construction management and technology consulting firm with 25 years of experience delivering high‑impact projects across the U.S. and worldwide. An ENR Top 100 CM/PM firm for five consecutive years, we specialize in program management, project controls, commissioning, and technology—and offer an excellent platform to grow your career while shaping the future of the built environment.

Procon seeks an experienced night shift Superintendent to support construction activities in a highly secure, occupied historic federal facility in downtown Washington, DC. The superintendent will work closely with the General Contractor, federal stakeholders, trade subcontractors, and project team to safely execute after-hours renovation and construction work while minimizing disruption to building occupants and maintaining strict security, quality, and schedule requirements.

This role requires a field-focused construction professional with demonstrated experience leading subcontractors, conducting coordination meetings, communicating project status, and managing work in secure federal government environments. An active Top Secret security clearance is required.

The selected individual will work primarily during night time and after-hours construction periods and may be required to work weekends or holidays depending on project needs. The role requires regular presence in active construction areas and the ability to walk the site, climb stairs, inspect work in constrained spaces, and use appropriate personal protective equipment. This role requires various skills and experience as listed below.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in construction supervision, field management, or a Superintendent role.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with a General Contractor on commercial, institutional, federal, or complex renovation projects.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating multiple subcontractor trades, including sequencing work within active and occupied facilities.
  • Federal government construction experience, including secure-site access, project documentation, stakeholder coordination, and facility operational requirements.
  • Demonstrated occupied-renovation experience, preferably within mission-critical, high-security, or continuously operating facilities.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance required, with the ability to maintain clearance eligibility throughout employment.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, trade coordination, quality control, jobsite safety, scheduling, and field documentation.
  • Proven ability to lead meetings, communicate with diverse stakeholders, and resolve field issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Ability to work night shifts and adjust work hours based on project operations, security requirements, and construction schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience preparing daily reports, meeting notes, and field correspondence.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Relevant construction management or Superintendent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with historic federal facilities, protected or landmarked buildings, and historic preservation requirements preferred.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies, GSA-managed facilities, or other secure government environments.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.
  • Experience with construction scheduling tools, Procore or similar project management systems, and electronic daily reporting platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of MEP systems, life-safety systems, temporary conditions, shutdown coordination, and commissioning-related activities preferred.
  • Strong field leadership, construction supervision, and subcontractor management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with contractors, client representatives, building occupants, and security personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize competing activities and make sound, timely decisions in an active construction environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding security, safety, building protection, and construction quality.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and reliability when working within sensitive federal environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, and phasing plans.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as the primary on-site construction representative during nighttime and after-hours work shifts.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly nighttime construction activities with the General Contractor, subcontractors, facility representatives, security personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct pre-shift coordination meetings, safety briefings, and look-ahead planning sessions with trade contractors and project personnel.
  • Review and manage planned work activities to ensure compliance with approved schedules, phasing plans, security procedures, permits, and building operational constraints.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower, material deliveries, access requirements, work sequencing, and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Verify construction work complies with contract documents, approved submittals, project specifications, applicable codes, quality-control requirements, and historic-preservation constraints.
  • Identify conflicts, field conditions, access limitations, and schedule risks, and coordinate timely resolution with the General Contractor and project team.
  • Maintain accurate records of nighttime operations, including daily reports, progress photographs, manpower logs, safety observations, deficiencies, incidents, and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide timely updates to project stakeholders regarding completed work, upcoming activities, impacts to building occupants, safety concerns, schedule issues, and required decisions.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, utility work, material movement, and other potentially disruptive activities to protect occupied building operations.
  • Enforce project safety requirements and maintain a clean, orderly, and secure work environment throughout each shift.
  • Protect historic building features, finishes, and sensitive building systems during construction activities.
  • Coordinate construction access, escorting requirements, staging, and secure-area procedures in accordance with federal facility protocols.
  • Participate in progress meetings, coordination meetings, quality-control inspections, and turnover or closeout activities as required.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular onsite presence in an active construction environment. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Walking and standing for extended periods while performing site observations and inspections.
  • Navigating active construction areas, including stairs, uneven surfaces, temporary walkways, and varying elevations.
  • Occasionally bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing as necessary to observe construction activities.
  • Accessing mechanical, electrical, utility, process, and other construction areas as required.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and complying with all applicable site safety requirements.
  • Working in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to typical construction-site conditions, including noise, dust, weather, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
