About the Role

Marketing + Media Alliance (MMA) is seeking a VP of Membership, Solution Providers to own how MMA builds and protects membership value for its solution provider members — the AdTech, MarTech, data, measurement, and services companies (includes Google, Meta, TikTok, Omnicom, BCG, Circana, and dozens more) that provide solutions to marketers. You own that membership outright — 100% of it. That means member satisfaction as measured by a member NPS, and everything that drives it: positioning, benefits, what we build, the programs we run, and how well they are executed. You have the authority to do what is necessary to move that number. Your co-partner is the other VP of Membership who runs the brand marketer membership; everything else on your side is yours to decide. You are also the internal voice of member insight and an advocate for member needs.

This is a high-visibility industry role. It requires moving fluidly between the distinctive cultures and organizational structures of the AdTech, MarTech, data, and services companies in your portfolio while building the trust, followership, and partnerships that keep them engaged. That means reaching deep into each organization and, just as importantly, laterally across the senior executive bench — so engagement is never dependent on a single relationship.

It is as much about genuine personal relationships, and about hitting a financial goal, as it is about building the systems and automation (see Learning and leveraging AI is a Big Part of the Job, below). The right person will have an engaging personality and appreciate relationships while also building out the application of machines that really support the feel of a relationship. In a period of significant growth for MMA, the role requires both strategic vision and disciplined execution to drive membership growth and retention.

Learning and leveraging AI is a Big Part of the Job

We fully expect everyone at MMA to learn AI and the toolsets that leverage it. This is not a nice-to-have skill to pick up when you have time. You need to be eager and willing to build real AI Fluency1 and change how you work. MMAers put real time, money and commitment behind that expectation:

  • We close MMA on Thursday afternoons so everyone here can learn AI. No meetings, no deliverables, just building AI Fluency.
  • We supply access to the tech: Claude, ChatGPT, and whatever else earns its place.
  • We expect you to rebuild your workflows with AI.
  • We run regular training sessions, and a Chief AI Officer leads internal adoption, upskilling, tool onboarding, and measurement of whether any of it is working. The Chief AI Officer owns the tooling and the program. You own whether AI changes how membership actually works — how you engage members, run renewals, and generate member insight.

Membership Strategy & Retention

  • Develop the annual membership strategy for your side of the business, and mesh that with the marketer membership side — so we have a plan for improvement to get to a member base that is proud to affiliate with MMA (even brags about it).
  • Own the solution provider value proposition end to end — positioning, benefits, engagement models, and growth path — across a diverse, global base of provider companies.
  • Co-own membership policy with the marketer-membership VP — dues, categorizations, and cancellations — and own how that policy applies to solution provider members.
  • Create real value for individual solution provider companies — tying MMA membership to their business objectives wherever we credibly can, so participation connects to their revenue goals.
  • Help solution provider members find the path where what they already do best becomes genuinely useful to the MMA marketer membership — surfacing their expertise, data, and capability into MMA research, Think Tanks, Labs, and programming.

Member Engagement & Retention Operations

  • Drive retention and renewal — onboarding, account management, and member communications — pulling in other departments, such as think tanks, where members need them.
  • Greatly deepen and broaden engagement within member companies — tracking each company’s event registration and attendance, participation in MMA boards and working groups, and adoption of MMA's tools, research, and subject-matter experts.
  • Promote MMA member resources and engagement opportunities — master classes, events, and training. Engagement is the key to success here.
  • Oversee the marketing assets built for members, including one-pagers, presentations, and email copy.
  • Own the engagement metrics and the systems behind them, plus annual budgeting, financial reporting, invoicing, and renewal templates.
  • Manage the B2B CMO Council and make it a must-attend community of senior marketing leaders.

People Leadership

  • Line manage a membership team of 2–3 people, with day-to-day oversight of their work and development. You will hold responsibility for growing the team as budgets permit. We do expect the team to grow.
  • Partner closely with the other VP of Membership, who runs the marketer membership — the two halves will operate as one function to members.
  • In partnership with senior leadership, manage peer groups that foster a tight-knit community of marketing and media executives, creating spaces for cross-industry dialogue that generate actionable insight for MMA leadership.
  • Partner with the Database Manager on membership database growth, segmentation, data hygiene, and on the dashboards and workflows that support business intelligence.

Requirements

Who You Are

  • You are looking for a sense of mission and purpose in your work, not just a bigger title. You want to build something that outlasts you — a legacy in an industry you care about.
  • You want to build a massive network of friends and relationships, in addition to an intense knowledge of all the players in the marketing ecosystem. You love getting into the real guts of an industry.
  • You like working with business leaders, and you hold your own with them. You are consultative and persuasive, a strong writer and communicator. Your primary relationships will be with the CEOs, CROs, and CMOs of these businesses.
  • You are fascinated by both sides of this job — the commercial side, where member companies connect MMA to real revenue, and the human side, where satisfaction and trust decide whether they stay. Most people are drawn to one. You need both.
  • You promote a collaborative environment while working independently with minimal supervision.
  • You have a relentless drive to make things happen, and you need to own a number and run a great process that delivers it.
  • You bring a confident, self-assured presence and a sense of diplomacy.
  • You believe marketing should be based on science and held to evidence, and you want to be part of forcing that change across the entire industry.

What Top Candidates Bring

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required; advanced degrees are valued but not needed. Raw intelligence and judgment matter more than schooling.
  • 10–15+ years of experience in marketing, with time in membership or senior client/account management. You need a strongunderstanding of the MarTech and AdTech ecosystem in order to be successful in this role.
  • A proven record of managing retention, renewal, and engagement processes at scale, including budget ownership and financial reporting.
  • Quality written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing member-facing materials, presentations, and reports.

Where This Job Leads

We want to be up front with you about where this can go next.

This role builds something genuinely rare: senior relationships across the entire supply side of marketing — AdTech, MarTech, data, measurement, consultancies — held at CEO, CRO, and CMO level, plus real credibility with the brands that buy from them. Almost nobody has both.

People who do this job well go on to run revenue or partnerships at a solution provider, lead another industry organization, or step into broader commercial leadership here. You will also leave with a number you owned, relationships beyond compare, and a map of this industry that very few people carry.

Or you stay. MMA should double in the next five years, which creates real opportunity for the people here. We are positioned for that growth, and we have serious resources in the bank from the sale of our stake in POSSIBLE, which remains an MMA event.

Cultural Fit

MMA has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and the workload tends to be fluid and urgent. We are scrappy go-getters who thrive with:

  • Freedom to explore solutions and improvements (no red tape!).
  • Tackling tough, complex problems (we love challenges).
  • Building things that create lasting change for our team, our members, and the industry.
  • 100% getting s*** done.

We're fearless, driven, and intelligently disruptive. That's how we solve challenges that most others give up on.

We are here on a mission to dramatically transform the marketing industry — and to build a legacy while we do it. Very few jobs offer a real shot at changing how an entire industry works. This one does, and that is not something most people get in a career.

MMA also keeps a PhD psychologist on retainer for staff to talk with about plans, goals, mission, and purpose. We want you to be the best you can be. (No, we've never heard of anybody else doing this either.)

Tools We Use

  • HubSpot for marketing and member communications, plus membership records, pipeline, and email automation.
  • Apollo for audience building and prospect campaigns.
  • Claude and ChatGPT, including agents and projects, as the core of how we work.
  • Microsoft 365: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Slack for everything internal.
  • Asana for tasks, projects and program management.
  • Zapier and other automation tools for building workflows that run without us.
  • If you know other things that would make us better, we're very open to that.

Benefits

The Practical Details

  • Compensation: [TBD: base band]. [TBD: bonus or additional compensation.] MMA is a nonprofit, so there is no equity component.
  • Team: 2–3 direct reports on the membership team today. The team will grow.
  • Location: 100% remote. We are open to candidates based outside the U.S., provided you work U.S. hours.
  • Travel: There is travel, but not a lot. You will be at MMA events and industry gatherings — that in-person presence is part of the job.

Benefits & Perks

Competitive benefits package include medical, dental, and vision insurance; HSA/FSA options; company-paid life and disability insurance; commuter benefits; Employee Assistance Program (EAP); health advocacy services; voluntary benefits such as pet, legal, and identity theft protection; and employee discount programs.

Benefits eligibility and coverage details are subject to plan terms and may vary based on employee status and elections

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
