Job Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (EECE) at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2027. We seek a scholar who will develop an externally funded research program addressing significant societal and technological challenges through electrical and computer engineering. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in departmental, college, and University service.

University, College, and Department

The University of Memphis is a Carnegie Research 1 public university serving 19,652 students in Fall 2025 and employing more than 1,000 full-time faculty. The Herff College of Engineering supports interdisciplinary research and education that address regional, national, and global needs.

EECE includes 12 tenured and tenure-track faculty and approximately 348 students. The Department offers two accredited undergraduate programs with a combined enrollment of approximately 312 students, an M.S. program with approximately 12 students, and Electrical and Computer Engineering concentrations within the Ph.D. in Engineering with approximately 24 students. Its principal research strengths are Electrical Systems, Biomedical Systems, and Intelligent Information Systems.

Faculty collaborate across the University and with external partners in areas that include biomedical imaging and sensing, remote sensing for defense, agriculture, and environmental applications, autonomous navigation, robotics, cybersecurity, healthcare, transportation, and resilient infrastructure. Additional information is available from the Herff College of Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Research and Teaching Focus

The Department seeks a scholar whose research applies electrical and computer engineering to major societal and technological challenges. Priority will be given to candidates whose work strengthens one or more of the following interconnected areas:

  • Intelligent sensing and healthcare technologies, including biomedical sensors, imaging, wearable and embedded systems, assistive technologies, and AI-enabled health monitoring.
  • Secure and trustworthy computing, including cybersecurity, privacy, hardware security, trustworthy AI, and protection of cyber-physical systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Sustainable energy and electrification, including power electronics, smart grids and microgrids, renewable-energy integration, energy storage, electric transportation, and wide-bandgap semiconductor systems.
  • Next-generation computing, communications, and autonomous systems, including quantum information technologies, edge and neuromorphic computing, advanced wireless systems, robotics, autonomous navigation, and remote sensing.

Strong candidates will demonstrate how their research addresses a significant societal or technological challenge, complements existing departmental strengths, supports interdisciplinary collaboration, and can attract sustained external funding.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
