The posting

Overview

  • World Business Lenders (WBL) provides general-purpose, short-term, real estate-collateralized commercial loans to small and medium-sized businesses throughout the United States that may not have access to traditional sources of funding. WBL is a U.S.-based company.
  • Typically, the work schedule is from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, though additional hours may be required based on business needs.

About the Role

  • The Head of Financial Planning is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and management reporting across WBL. The position leads the FP&A team and works closely with department heads to assess performance, plan expenditures, and evaluate business decisions. Responsibilities include consolidated financial forecasts, portfolio and capital planning, and presentations to executive management, investors, and the board. The successful candidate will be an experienced finance leader who can direct the function while remaining closely involved in financial modeling and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct company-wide budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and management reporting.
  • Manage the annual budget, periodic reforecasts, and long-term financial plans, including departmental submissions, planning assumptions, and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and cash-flow forecasts, incorporating operating expense and headcount plans.
  • Oversee origination and loan portfolio forecasting, including nonperforming loans (NPL), real estate owned (REO), recoveries, and the financial impact of portfolio performance.
  • Forecast cash requirements, liquidity, financing facility utilization, and covenant compliance in coordination with Accounting and Treasury; evaluate capital needs under different business scenarios.
  • Build and review financial models, scenario analyses, and sensitivity analyses to assess growth plans, financing alternatives, and changes in business conditions.
  • Evaluate channel and product profitability, unit economics, pricing, and proposed business initiatives.
  • Prepare management reports comparing actual results with budgets and forecasts, explain significant variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work with department heads to review assumptions, assess staffing and expenditure requests, and address financial and operating performance.
  • Prepare and present financial plans, forecasts, performance analyses, and recommendations to executive teams, investors, and boards.
  • Apply U.S. GAAP and IFRS to financial planning and reporting, working with Accounting to ensure forecasts reflect the appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Manage FP&A team leaders and analysts, assign priorities, review work, and provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Establish and maintain controls over financial models and reports, including documented assumptions, supporting schedules, reconciliations, version control, and change logs.
  • Standardize and automate recurring planning and reporting processes, resolve data discrepancies with the responsible departments, and oversee financial analysis for due diligence and other special projects.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • At least 20 years of progressive finance experience, including a minimum of eight years leading FP&A or financial planning teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Extensive, hands-on knowledge of both U.S. GAAP and IFRS, with demonstrated ability to apply both frameworks to financial planning and reporting.
  • Expertise in financial modeling and scenario analysis.
  • A proven record of working with department heads and presenting financial plans, results, and recommendations to executive teams, investors, and boards.
  • A recognized professional qualification, such as CPA, CA, or equivalent, and a degree in finance, accounting, or economics.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to build, connect, and review three-statement financial models and reconcile outputs to source data and financial statements.
  • Sound financial judgment and the ability to identify significant performance drivers, assess assumptions, and resolve gaps in financial and operational data.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to explain financial results, assumptions, and risks to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, recurring deadlines, and a remote finance team.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience as a divisional CFO of an international entity.
  • Experience in commercial lending, mortgage lending, specialty finance, banking, or another financial-services environment.
  • Experience overseeing lending portfolio analysis, liquidity and capital planning, financing facilities, and covenant forecasting.
  • Experience improving or automating financial planning, modeling, and management reporting processes.

Work Requirements

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
