ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you comfortable with technology, fluent in Dari and/or Pashto, and want to use your skills and abilities to impact Afghan women’s lives?

World Relief seeks a Tech Support Intern to join our team! The Dari/Pashto-speaking Tech Support Intern provides technical assistance to adult refugee women with limited English, literacy levels, and technical skills so they can access virtual education. The intern provides basic digital literacy training and instructs female clients how to use phones, laptops, and Zoom. Ongoing technical support is provided through phone and video calls and driving to refugee clients’ homes as needed to troubleshoot tech problems. The intern also helps refugees connect to affordable internet service. This position requires fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, has a flexible schedule, and is ideal for interns with backgrounds in IT, Education, Social Work, or other majors. The intern must be available Tue, Wed, Thu 8:30 am-12:00 pm. This position is for 10 hours per week. This is a hybrid position, with 1 day in the office and 4 days working from home. The intern will become more familiar with the challenges faced by preliterate refugees, gain experience helping clients become digitally literate, and become aware of the importance of resources that assist preliterate refugees in accessing services. This is an unpaid internship; however, university credit may be available with prior approval.

  • Set up, update, distribute, and track the department’s loaning laptops to clients.
  • Train preliterate clients in the basics of digital literacy (phone and laptop usage) by breaking down complex technical processes so clients can understand how to do it themselves,
  • Provide multiple phone, video, and in-person tech support visits to clients who are facing problems with their laptops, internet, and/or phones.
  • Research and help clients obtain low-cost internet.
  • Assist with creating digital literacy training materials, including making short how-to videos for clients.
  • Provide general support across the office and with special projects as needed.
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief.
  • Desire to serve vulnerable communities.
  • Acknowledge World Relief’s faith statement.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto.
  • Good technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot phone and computer problems.
  • Able to work independently and self-manage tasks and time.
  • Outgoing in meeting new people and quickly building rapport.
  • Hold current valid US Driver’s License; regular access to a personal vehicle required; must pass Motor Vehicle check.
  • Female-presenting only, in respect for the cultural values of the population served.
  • Able to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Comfortable communicating with and educating clients with limited literacy skills and little English.
  • Comfortable working with PC laptops, WhatsApp, Zoom, iPhones, and Androids.
  • Strong skills in on-the-spot problem solving and exploring creative solutions.
  • Able to follow directions, learn, and retain new information quickly.

While some internships are unpaid, the program is competitive and you are encouraged to approach it in the same way you would a job. Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume, application, and to pass a Criminal Background Check. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please note that an internship with World Relief does not guarantee a future job in the organization.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
