The posting

Civil Engineer (PE) – Renewables

Forge ahead with WSB. WSB was founded on the understanding that culture drives results, and we've built our organization around strong relationships, collaboration, technical excellence, and forward-thinking ideas. We bring together engineers, environmental professionals, surveyors, water resources specialists, and construction experts to solve complex challenges and deliver infrastructure that supports a more sustainable future.

We are seeking a Civil Engineer (PE) – Renewables to serve as an Engineer of Record (EOR) and technical leader for utility-scale solar, distributed generation, and renewable energy infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to take ownership of civil engineering design from conceptual site layout and feasibility through permitting, detailed design, construction documents, and project delivery.

You'll work alongside WSB's in-house environmental, water resources, survey, and construction teams, giving you the opportunity to see projects through end to end rather than handing them off between disciplines. You'll contribute to some of the industry's most important clean energy projects while developing your technical and project leadership capabilities.

At WSB, you'll have the opportunity to work on high-impact renewable energy projects while collaborating with experienced professionals across civil engineering, environmental, water resources, survey, construction, and other disciplines.

You'll have the resources of a multidisciplinary engineering firm while maintaining the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on projects and clients. Whether you're an experienced renewable energy engineer or a PE-level land development engineer looking to transition into the clean energy sector, WSB provides a platform to expand your technical expertise, take on increasing responsibility, and build a long-term career in renewable energy.

This position can be based out of any of our main WSB offices, including Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, Austin, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Melissa, or Minneapolis.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for utility-scale and distributed generation solar PV and renewable energy projects, providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary project teams through conceptual design, site feasibility, permitting, detailed engineering, construction documentation, and project delivery.
  • Develop complex renewable energy site layouts and civil designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D, working closely with design managers, project managers, surveyors, environmental professionals, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Perform civil engineering design and calculations for mass grading, earthwork, cut/fill optimization, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, access roads, and site development.
  • Lead production and technical review of civil plan sets, including grading and drainage plans, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, access roads, site details, and construction documents.
  • Support the development of utility-scale solar sites, distributed generation facilities, and other renewable energy infrastructure from early-stage feasibility through construction.
  • Manage a portfolio of renewable energy projects while maintaining scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client objectives.
  • Coordinate civil design with PV layouts, electrical infrastructure, substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), site access, environmental constraints, and other project components as applicable.
  • Collaborate with environmental, water resources, survey, geotechnical, and construction support teams to provide integrated, multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Support permitting and regulatory requirements related to site development, stormwater, erosion and sediment control, environmental compliance, and local jurisdictional approvals.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering plans, calculations, specifications, and project documentation to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and consistency.
  • Identify and resolve complex civil engineering and site-development challenges using creative, practical, and constructible solutions.
  • Build relationships with clients, developers, utilities, contractors, and internal project teams while helping identify opportunities for continued renewable energy work.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and designers, contributing to the development of WSB's growing renewable energy engineering practice.

Travel: Less than 10%.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state, with the ability to obtain additional state licenses.
  • 4+ years of civil engineering experience in solar, renewable energy, land development, site development, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar, distributed generation, renewable energy, or clean energy infrastructure is highly desirable.
  • Strong land development engineers interested in transitioning into renewable energy are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience developing detailed civil construction documents.
  • Strong technical experience with mass grading, earthwork, cut/fill optimization, roadway and access design, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy site layouts, PV facilities, BESS, substations, transmission/interconnection infrastructure, or other energy infrastructure is a plus.
  • Experience navigating local, state, and federal permitting requirements associated with civil/site development projects.
  • Experience managing detailed design for large-scale, complex, or multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high standards for technical quality, schedule, budget, and client service.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership of projects and grow into broader technical and project leadership responsibilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
