The Opportunity

Explore Limitless Possibilities

Join our Edmonton team for the 2027 field season and build hands-on wildlife experience supporting active construction projects. These temporary seasonal positions are anticipated to begin in April 2027 and continue through the end of August 2027, with the possibility of extension. The opportunity is well suited to students completing a practicum or work term, recent graduates, and individuals early in their wildlife career.

As a Junior Wildlife Technician, you will work alongside WSP wildlife biologists and environmental professionals to complete field surveys and provide wildlife support for construction projects. The role will primarily involve pre-construction wildlife sweeps, migratory bird nest sweeps, wildlife feature identification and monitoring, and amphibian salvage. Other wildlife surveys and environmental field support may also be required.

Your Impact

  • Assist with migratory bird nest surveys and documentation of associated observations.
  • Assist with amphibian salvage, handling and relocation under the direction of experienced project personnel.
  • Assist with identifying and documenting wildlife, wildlife sign, nests, dens, cavities and other wildlife features encountered during field surveys.
  • Support monitoring of identified wildlife features and mitigation measures, as required.
  • Collect and record field observations using digital data collection tools, GPS units and standardized field forms.
  • Report wildlife observations and field findings to the supervising wildlife biologist or project lead.
  • Maintain clear and complete field notes and assist with data entry and field documentation.
  • Work alongside wildlife biologists, environmental monitors, construction personnel and other field staff.
  • Participate in other wildlife surveys and field programs as required.
  • Follow project-specific procedures and WSP health and safety requirements.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Current enrolment in, or completion of, a diploma or degree in Wildlife, Environmental Science, Renewable Resources, Conservation, Biology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant field training.
  • An interest in wildlife surveys and construction-related environmental field work.
  • Basic wildlife identification skills and an interest in developing your knowledge of wildlife species and signs.
  • Previous experience assisting with wildlife surveys is an asset but is not required.
  • Experience with wildlife sweeps, migratory bird nest surveys, amphibian salvage, or other wildlife field surveys is an asset.
  • Experience with digital field data collection, GPS units, or mobile field applications is an asset; training may be provided.
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and collaboratively as part of a field team.
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in variable weather, terrain, and field conditions.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project locations and work variable schedules based on construction needs.
  • Valid First Aid, wildlife awareness, or other relevant field safety training is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary seasonal field position based out of Edmonton, Alberta, supporting wildlife field programs and construction activities.
  • Field schedules will vary based on project and construction needs and may include early starts, long field days, weekends, and shifts away from home.
  • Travel is required, including work in rural and remote project locations.
  • Work will be primarily field-based and completed outdoors in a variety of weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.
  • The position may involve extended periods of walking, driving, and working outdoors while completing wildlife surveys.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
