The Certified Pharmacy Technician position is part of the hospital-based Pharmacy department and is a part-time role working approximately 48 hours per two-week pay period. This position assists pharmacists with medication preparation, inventory management, purchasing, distribution, and other pharmacy operations within the scope of a pharmacy technician. The role supports safe and efficient medication services by maintaining accurate records, preparing medications and supplies, and ensuring pharmacy stock is properly received, stored, and maintained. Standard working hours are flexible Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with other hours as needed. Occasional staffing at the retail pharmacy may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy Technician certification required or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Previous pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong computer, math, and spelling skills.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service skills.
  • Epic experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and other non-professional pharmacy functions within the scope of practice.
  • Prepare IV medications and medications for dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
  • Stock Pyxis and maintain medication and supply inventories.
  • Order, receive, store, and maintain medications and pharmacy supplies.
  • Pre-package medications and prepare stock solutions and written formulas as directed.
  • Complete requisitions and maintain accurate pharmacy records and files.
  • Monitor medication inventory and identify outdated, slow-moving, or unnecessary stock for return or disposal.
  • Ensure medications and other items prepared by the technician are checked by the pharmacist as required.
  • Maintain pharmacy equipment and work areas.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other departments to support safe and efficient patient care.
  • Provide occasional staffing support at the retail pharmacy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
